With three active COVID-19 cases in the district, we’ve had a lot of people asking about our district’s geography. What does it mean when we say a case is locat...ed in north, central, or south Timiskaming? Is Temagami in our region? What about Timmins and Cochrane? When we announce a COVID-19 case, here is what the geographical information means: North Kirkland Lake and surrounding area Central Englehart, Earlton and surrounding area South Temiskaming Shores and surrounding area, including the Temagami region Timmins and Cochrane are located in the Porcupine Health Unit coverage area, so make sure to follow them on Facebook if you want to learn about COVID-19 cases in those towns.

The two cases are unrelated. Both individuals are currently isolating and the cases are presently under investigation. Contact tracing is underway and those who have been identified as close contacts have been, or are in the process of being notified. The patient is currently be...ing cared for at Temiskaming Hospital where they are in stable condition. All necessary infection prevention and control measures were used with this patient. The case is presently under investigation. Contact tracing is underway and those who have been identified as close contacts have been, or are in the process of being notified. Les Services de santé du Timiskaming annoncent un nouveau cas de COVID-19 dans le district de Timiskaming. Le patient est présentement soigné à l'hôpital du Temiskaming et son état de santé est stable. Toutes les mesures nécessaires de prévention et de contrôle des infections ont été prises avec ce patient. L’investigation se poursuit ainsi que la communication avec les contacts. Ceux qui ont été identifiés comme des contacts étroits ont été, ou sont sur le point d'être avisés.

This is why it's so important for people that are close contacts of a positive case to remain in isolation for the full period of time identified by public health.

For patients with an appointment at this flu shot clinic please bring someone with you in case you have a reaction, bring your health card, wear short sleeves, and wear a mask. When you arrive, please check in by using the outside telecom system, let the receptionist know which number you are parked in, then return to your vehicle. If you are scheduled for a flu shot and are not feeling well, please call the office at (705) 569-3244 to reschedule to another day.

Once again, COVID-19 cases are rising quickly in Ontario, which means that we’re all at greater risk for infection. We have all struggled together some more t...han others but we have made it through because we always find the strength to do the right thing. That means continuing to wear a mask and keeping two metres apart in public spaces. It means washing your hands throughly and often. It means keeping your social circles small. And it means knowing the cost of unnecessary or unsafe social gatherings. Now is the time for all Ontarians, of every age, to come together to ensure our friends, families & communities stay safe during the second wave. Earlier this year, our sacrifices helped flatten the curve. We can do it again together.

As requests for COVID-19 tests increase at the Assessment Centers in our district, Timiskaming Health Unit would like to remind people that the priority for tes...ting is people who have symptoms of COVID-19. If you or a family member are asymptomatic (have no symptoms of COVID-19) you do not need to be tested. Asymptomatic testing should only be completed for targeted groups such as Long Term Care Home visitors or other groups directed by Public Health. QUESTION If someone in my household is symptomatic and gets tested but the rest of the people in my household are asymptomatic (have no symptoms of COVID-19) should they get tested anyway? ANSWER No. Only people who are symptomatic should get tested, even if they are in the same household. If the situation changes and symptoms do present themselves, then testing should take place.
