Parents and Guardians, As we switch to online learning, please note that students can access Google Classroom through a smartphone, laptop, desktop, tablet, IPad etc. It is not necessary that they have a chromebook to participate in online learning. If you do not have access to any technology and require a device from the school in order to access Google Classroom, please complete the google form at the link below:... https://forms.gle/R3DVBKH3WicNnkiE7 We will be distributing devices starting Tuesday. Our priority will be grade 12 students, and then we will work backwards through the grades in order to provide technology for our younger students. Please note that this is a new google form. If you requested a device previously, we need you to fill out this form again. In order to ensure that all of our students have technology, please do not request a device if you have access to any of the technologies listed above.

A memo from the town of Meadows: With the re-opening of school, there has been increased traffic on Marine Dive during scheduled school breaks. Council is concerned with speeding on the newly paved road. There are children and seniors on this street and the speed limit is 20 kms per hour. As well as speeding, littering has become a huge problem since the re-opening of school. A garbage can has been placed in the rest spot by the picnic tables, please use it. Speeding and littering are offences for which tickets can be issued under the Highway Traffic Act Section 110 and the Environmental Protection Act Section 16 respectively. The RCMP has been notified and will be including this area in their North Shore patrol.

NLIS 2 Office of the Child and Youth Advo Child and Youth Advocate Invites Youth in the 2SLGBTQIA+ Community to Participate in its 30 for 30 Awareness Campaign Young people have a unique way of expressing themselves and cutting to the chase. Child and Youth Advocate Jackie Lake Kavanagh is therefore inviting youth from the 2SLGBTQIA+ community to help in an awareness campaign with her office. The 30 for 30 Campaign will release a message a day for 30 days in November fro...m these youth in order to raise awareness and understanding of their issues and insights. Jackie Lake Kavanagh said, Many of these youth are extremely marginalized, face discrimination and violence, and can find it difficult to be heard. While they have important perspectives and insights to share, they are not always in a safe space to do so. The Child and Youth Advocate is interested in hearing the messages of these youth in order to amplify these important voices, and to build better public understanding and change. A new message will be posted daily to the twitter account and website of the Office of the Child and Youth Advocate. In this way, youth can share their messages safely. Names and home communities will not be identified. The Office of the Child and Youth Advocate is committed to ensuring that the rights of children and youth are respected and protected. These include the right to be heard in matters and decisions that affect them, and the right to be free from discrimination and violence. It is important to listen because young people are experts in their own lives. This is where meaningful change begins. Youth can share their messages by emailing [email protected], texting to [email protected], or by calling 1-877-753-3888. The deadline for messages is October 15, 2020. The 30 for 30 campaign poster can be found attached, on the OCYA website childandyouthadvocate.nl.ca/default.htm and also on twitter @ocyanl.

Bussing update. The following message was just emailed to parents / guardians: ------------------------------------------------------------------------... The Newfoundland and Labrador English School District is pleased to inform you that service for all normally eligible students (according to Government policy) will start effective Monday morning, September 14. For a summary of how eligibility is determined, as well as how bus routes and bus stops are developed, please see the District’s Bus Route & Stop Design Guidelines. The District will be revisiting courtesy seating (including courtesy stops) once full service at all schools is completed. You will receive further information on this courtesy seating process in the near future. Seating plans will be developed for the updated routes at a later date as the focus is on getting service in place for all schools. However, we ask that students continue to follow the general loading procedures as follows: Load from back to front; Siblings sitting together; and Kindergarten and Grade 1 students sitting up front as applicable Please go to the District’s website and select the school bus icon on the far right that is associated with your school to locate the student’s bus route, bus stop and pickup/dropoff schedule. IMPORTANT: Even if a student was eligible for transportation on the first day of school, please review the updated routes on the website because the student’s bus route and/or pickup/dropoff times may have changed with the redesign of bus routes and extra buses. We ask for your patience as there may be delays to the pickup/dropoff times as we work out the kinks in the schedule that typically arise when new routes are implemented at the beginning of the school year.
