2019 WEEK 23: Joy This week we will be focusing our photographic intentions on the emotion of JOY. Take a new photo that captures or evokes feelings of joy. Pe...rhaps most obviously, you might capture an expression of joy on a persons (or animals) face. Or you might capture an image of something that brings you joy. Or create an abstract image that evokes joy. Post your photo during the week of Sunday, June 2 and Saturday, June 8.

2019 WEEK 22: Architecture Stairs This weeks challenge is to photograph any set of stairs that you find interesting. They can be big or small, old or new, gra...nd or mundane. All that matters is that you find them interesting and photogenic. As always, pay careful attention to composition and exposure, and try to take the best photo you can Post your photo during the week of Sunday, May 26 and Saturday, June 1.

2019 WEEK 17: Stitched Panoramas & Vertoramas Click on this link for more details and suggestions on _how_ to create a stitched panorama: https://photochallenge....tempusaura.com//2019-week-17-stitc/ This week your challenge is to create a stitched panorama or a vertorama (vertical panorama). I am emphasizing stitched because in a future challenge I will be building on that skill. Your panorama/vertorama can be of any subject you choose. Feel free to think outside the box of what you think a panorama "should" be. Post your photo during the week of Sunday, April 21 and Saturday, April 27. Please remember to comment on at least FIVE photo submissions this week by answering the question why? in your comments. In other words, why do I like (or not like) this photo? or why did this photo catch my eye? Thank you!

2019 WEEK 16: Abandoned Thanks to Debbie Archer for suggesting this weeks theme. This weeks challenge is to photograph anything abandoned. You can take a mo...re literal interpretation, such as an abandoned building or object. Or you can take a more abstract interpretation, such as a feeling or impression of abandonment. As always, creative or out of the box ideas are welcomed and encouraged Post your photo during the week of Sunday, April 14 and Saturday, Mar 20.

2019 WEEK 14: Titles Were taking a different approach to the photo challenge this week. I want to challenge your thought process before you take a photo. I wan...t you to find something that compels you to take a photo, but stop before you press the shutter button and ask yourself: - Whats the story here? - What emotion does the scene evoke in me? - What memory arises? - What is the relationship between the different elements in the photo? - What does this image mean to me? Then use the answers to one or more of those questions to come up with a title for that story before you take the photo - and include that title when you post your photo. (For more details, the backstory as well as additional links to get you started if you feel stuck, click on the link to the blog post.) Please post your photo during the week of Sunday, Mar 31 and Saturday, Apr 6.

2019 WEEK 13: Nature Macro Thanks to Stephanie Adams for suggesting this weeks theme. Its time for another macro challenge! This weeks goal is to take a macr...o shot of anything found in nature: Plants, insects, rocks, or (small) wildlife could all be great choices. As long as its something found in nature, its fair game. As always, we love creative, out of the box ideas Post your photo during the week of Sunday, Mar 24 and Saturday, Mar 30.

2019 WEEK 12: Window Reflections -- by Jeanie Sumrall-Ajero Ive been known to lament window reflections as having ruined a photo, but every so often I find ref...lections that add an important compositional element. Thats what were going for this week: window reflections that add to the composition rather than detract from it. Often times in a city you can find reflections in glass buildings that create wonderful abstracts. In a shopping district it can be fun to look for reflections in store windows that visually interact with the elements on the other side of the window. Or you can look for reflections in windows around your home, car, place of work, etc. The key to this challenge is to consider the reflection(s) as an integral part of the overall composition. I encourage you to be creative and look for a reflection that compels you to take a photo. Post your photo during the week of Sunday, Mar 17 and Saturday, Mar 23. Please read the linked blog page for additional suggestions and challenge details.

WEEK 10: Single Subject A big thank you to Cheryl Joy for suggesting this weeks challenge topic! This weeks challenge rules are simple: Photograph one, single... subject. The subject itself can be anything big, small, still life, or living. The most important goal is to ensure that there is little or nothing else in your photo that distracts from your (single) main subject. The end result will be a clean, uncluttered photo of your subject. Post your photo during the week of Sunday, March 3 and Saturday, March 9.

WEEK 9: Found Still Life By Tonya J. Bender For this weeks challenge we are putting a twist on Still Life by photographing inanimate subject matter, whether na...tural or man-made, as found and without interference by the photographer. Since the artist is unable to have complete control over the composition and lighting in Found Still Life, which are key aspects of photography, some creative techniques should be considered while photographing. Lighting can somewhat be controlled by choosing what time of day to photograph, by adding fill light either on or off camera, or by utilizing reflectors, diffusors, or anything else that may alter the available light. Composition can be controlled by artistically excluding things that do not contribute to the overall image by experimenting with your shooting angle or perspective, by zooming in or moving closer to your subject, or by using a shallow depth of field. Post your photo during the week of Sunday, Feb 24 and Saturday, March 2.

2019 WEEK 8: Trees https://photochallenge.tempusaura.com///2019-week-8-trees/ Weve had a few weeks of indoor challenges so its time to get outside! This we...ek well focus on trees. You can photograph a single tree or many trees, an entire tree or just parts of it, only trees or trees as part of a larger scene. The choice is yours. If you want to further challenge for yourself, consider adding another parameter to this challenge such as: - A technique such as double exposure, long exposure, infrared or intentional camera movement (to name just a few) - A unique perspective - Limiting yourself to a particular focal length such as wide angle, 50mm, etc. - Minimalism - Macro I encourage you to be creative. How might you photograph trees in a way that you havent tried before? This challenge runs from Sunday, Feb 17 and Saturday, Feb 23.

2019 WEEK 7: Interior Architecture This weeks challenge is Interior Architecture. You can photograph any architectural element that catches your eye: Floors, c...eilings, windows, doors, stairs, chairs, woodwork, metalwork, something new, old, big, or small. The only requirement is that the architecture must be found indoors. You can find great architecture anywhere: Museums, libraries, churches, theaters, hotel lobbies, government buildings, or even your own home. Naturally, I know that not everyone has easy access to the Sistine Chapel. (Though if you do, this might be a great week to visit.) Instead, make use of whatever buildings you have available you can take fantastic photos anywhere. As always, fun, creative, or out of the box interpretations are encouraged This challenge runs from Sunday, Feb 10 through Saturday, Feb 16.

2019 WEEK 3: Square Crop, Centered Subject For this weeks challenge, youll need to do two simple things: Take a photo with a square crop (i.e. same width and ...height), and center your subject within the photo. Aside from that, the rest is completely up to you! As always, creative, out of the box ideas are welcomed and encouraged. As well, weve been thrilled with how well everyone has been participating this week. A big part of that has been how much everyone has been commenting on each others photos. As such, Id ask that everyone please keep up the great commenting and activity thats what makes this such a great group Please remember the challenge rules: Post one new photo that you took after the challenge was announced.

2019 WEEK 2: Guilty Pleasures Food & Drink PLUS Commenting Forget New Years resolutions this week! What food or drink do you think you could NEVER give up be...cause it brings you so much pleasure? This isnt meant to be a confessional we are a photography challenge after all. So put on your photography hat and do your best to create one new image that will make the rest of us want to join you in your guilty pleasure. ALSO I chose what I think should be a fairly easy challenge theme this week because what I _really_ want you to focus on is COMMENTING on others photos. Please comment on at least FIVE photo submissions this week by answering the question why? in your comments. In other words, why do I like (or not like) this photo? or why did this photo catch my eye? I believe that when you approach comments from this perspective, you can improve your own photography. Many of you comment often and I thank you for that. However, I know that others often feel that they dont know enough to comment on someone elses photo. Lets have a discussion about that in the comments below.

WEEK 50: Symmetry This weeks challenge should be a fun, simple one: Photograph anything with strong elements of symmetry. The choice of subject is up to you i...t can be architectural, natural, man-made, or even something abstract. The only requirement is that you subjects have some form of symmetry. As always, we can't wait to see everyone's great photos :)

WEEK48: B&W - Paper This week well be exploring the creative possibilities of paper. Paper is interesting because it can both reflect light as well as transmit... light depending on whether it is being frontlit or backlit. Paper can be bent, folded, crumpled, stacked, fanned, and/or cut to create interesting designs and textures when viewed through the lens of a camera. I encourage you to get creative with your photos this week! See more

WEEK 46: Faces without People This weeks challenge should be fun, creative, and perhaps a bit silly. The goal is to photograph a face (or anything that looks l...ike a face) with only one restriction: You may not have any people in your photo. Anything else is fair game: Animals, stuffed toys, statues, artwork, or even inanimate objects that just happen to look like faces. The goal is to take something non-human, and show off its human-like qualities. For this week, you are encouraged to be silly and have fun The more unusual or creative your subject the better.
