I had the absolute pleasure of delivering meals to Coquitlam veterans today as part of the Coquitlam Senior Meals Program. All the veteran meals were sold out in less than 48 hours all paid for by donation from generous, caring, grateful community members. Over 120 of these donated and made-with-love meals were delivered to approximately 40 veterans. I am proud of the City of Coquitlam’s Parks & Rec staff for spearheading this program and for the generousity of our community. This initiative was a meaningful way to honour those who sacrificed for our present day freedoms and I was thankful to play a small part.

I attended the TriCities Homelessness & Housing Task Group meeting this morning which is prompting me to ask my generous, caring community for help. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the churches etc. that normally provide emergency overnight shelter during the colder months are unable to operate this winter. The Coquitlam homeless shelter is full and so are the 30 rooms dedicated for an Emergency Response Centre at a TriCities hotel (that started 6 months ago in response ...to the pandemic). It’s going to be a very long, cold winter for our most vulnerable population. I am starting to collect items and if you can help with the following, please do! Warmth: - Undergarments including warm socks, underwear, sportsbras (easier to fit than traditional bras) If you are at Costco, WalMart, SuperStore etc. the prices/value for packages of socks/underwear are great. (I’ve collected/distributed these items before and they are always appreciated!) - blankets not big bulky, comforter type but smaller, easier to carry - Togues, gloves Christmas Cheer: We are planning on providing gifts/stockings to the residents of both shelters. Items requested include sweets/candy, toiletries (unopened/new), gift cards, socks. Closer to Christmas we will be asking for specific items the residents can’t afford but they need/want. If you would like to help support keeping the unsheltered warm and bringing some cheer to those struggling, your kindness and generosity will definitely make a difference. Please contact me if you have any questions or want to discuss drop off/pick up. Thank you!

I watched salmon in a local creek this weekend and I was captivated. The life cycle of salmon is facinating!

Another COVID-19 disappointment - but the right decision. Health and safety of our residents comes first.
