TCRD aspires to be a space where people of all races can be supported, empowered and accepted. This isn't something we can do without unpacking the history, legacy and reality of racism in roller derby and rollerskating culture. We love this sport, but we're not going to ignore the role it has played in co-opting black culture while perpetuating racism, misogynoir and transphobia. This isn't something we can do in a social media post or a weekend -- it will require a sustai...ned effort and commitment from everyone in the league. Today, many of us will be at the protests. We'd love to see you there. 4pm at Canada Place (Olympic torch). Wear a mask. Do your best to maintain social distance. Bring water. White protesters, stay to the perimeter and follow the organizers' lead. In the coming weeks, we will be celebrating some amazing black skaters on social media, to promote their voices and platforms. Know that we are also doing the work within our team, looking at our history, policy and behaviour. If you would like to share an experience you've had within the rollerskating community or our league, we're listening. Love and power, Leggy Lawless
