A brilliant afternoon spent with my pal Tyler Messick for a sold-out fundraiser organized by John & Shirley Burdock in support of The Portal, helping young people who are at risk or experiencing homelessness. Very strong front-row showing by Vern & Donna, (the only) members of my very exclusive NB Fan Club I love the Valley!
Getting ready for a beautiful afternoon at The Noodle Guy with Tyler R. Messick thanks to Shirley Burdock Shirley has done a terrific job raising funds for The Portal, which provides resources for youth who are at risk or experiencing homelessness.
I have two band shows coming up in November, but after reading this, I may never play solo again!
I'm pretty used to playing solo shows, so I am absolutely tickled for the chance to perform these songs with some brilliant bandmates you'll hear on the album, including Adam Fine on bass and Jordi Comstock on drums! Both The Carleton and The Union Street have limited seat due to Covid, so I'd encourage you to get your seats for you and your bubble buddies soon! Click the link below for info on the Halifax show, and Valley friends can call (902) 583-7787. Yay!
It's Bandcamp Day! Bandcamp is waiving its fees so the artists will receive every penny from music purchased today, which makes it a great day to pick up new tunes from local folks like Mike T. Kerr, Owen Meany's Batting Stance, Blue Acres, Thomas Stajcer, and Gianna Lauren... and maybe preorder Chasing Rabbits while you're at it, which includes a download of Lunenburg Moon! https://terraspencer.bandcamp.com/album/chasing-rabbits
Based on the great day I had recording Boat Harbour last year, I can vouch for the fact that Dave's studio is a wonderful welcome place to document a song. Dave Gunning is an enthusiastic collaborator with a great blend of technical skill and creativity, and above all, one heck of a nice guy who puts his heart into everything he does. http://www.weehouseofmusic.com/
Last September, Deep Roots Music Festival and The Atlantic String Machine gave me one of the greatest musical experiences of my life, captured by one of the greatest supports of my life, my aunt Patti Gass. This song, In the City, gets a new home on the album Chasing Rabbits, with Bela String Quartet, led by Anna Wedlock, who wrote the astonishing string arrangement you hear here. Thank you for your kindness toward these very personal (and sometimes very long!) songs, and the people who help bring them to life. It means the world to me. More to come!
It's been an extra-large day, and I have been carrying around in my pocket some incredibly kind words from Martin Noakes of Great Dark Wonder, who showed the same generosity to my first album. We talk a lot about the challenges that artists have faced during Covid, but that adversity extends by nature to the whole community of people that help make music possible - managers, publicists, venues, programmers, engineers, designers, etc. To all those people, and to writers like Martin and Alex who spread the word about what artists do, my very sincere thanks.
"Complete with a harbourside stroll showcasing a bit of the town’s charm, Lunenburg Moon recreates that first evening for the Nova Scotian love song and then drizzles some delicious mandolin and fiddle mix over it. It’s a warm and cozy song that offers a gentle reminder to appreciate what we have." I appreciate my friend Alex Cook at The East for his commitment to spreading the (very eloquent) word about the East Coast arts scene!
Lunenburg Moon is a gentle Nova Scotian waltz for the end of September, featuring Sarah Frank and Luke Fraser of The Bombadils and Adam Fine on double bass Filmed by Katy Hopkins of Analog Songs on a late summer evening, it's the first song released from my new album, Chasing Rabbits, coming November 13. Thank you to St John's Anglican Church, Lunenburg, Susan Sanford, The Half Shell, and Salt Shaker Deli, Lunenburg for helping us capture this souvenir of Lunenburg, and to Music Nova Scotia for supporting this project!
Beauty of a moon last night - one more sleep until Lunenburg Moon finds its way into your phone! There's some music news for my Valley friends that is almost ready to hatch...
Why do I keep crowing about Mike T. Kerr? Here's a three-minute explanation, filmed by another one of my favorite people, Katy Hopkins of Analog Songs. Mike's new record is available on Bandcamp now!
