The BC Recovery Benefit application period opened today. It pays $1,000 to households that earned under $150,000 last year (it pays partially for incomes up to $175k). Application deadline is June 2021. To apply, you (and spouse) will need your SIN number, driver's license number and banking details. Here is my CHEAT SHEET I use to open RESP accounts as quickly and simply as possible. To receive free government grants for your child, you must open an RESP account. These accounts are FREE, and no contributions are required. In all, there’s about 17-20 pages to fill out to get an account opened. If you fill out this ONE FORM, I fill out everything else. It doesn’t get simpler than that. :)

Another empty RESP account opened and $1200 BC grant collected for a nine year old. Less than 100 days left until this grant disappears for BC kids born in 2007-2009. All BC kids born 2006-2012 qualify. Setup takes less than thirty minutes. Unfortunately, much of the general public is still not aware of this grant or that it’s 100% free. Let's change that. A big thank you to my local MLA, Laurie Throness, for sharing my concerns about the low enrolment for BC's $1200 post secondary education grant. I have also been in touch with Rob Fleming's office (Minister of Education), and I hope to see some improvement in enrolment numbers. B.C. kids born in 2007-2009 will lose a free $1200 post secondary education grant this August 14th if not enrolled before then.

It’s official. Advocating for $1200 education grant enrolment is inappropriate. I don’t think people realize that this isn’t something you buy - it’s free. In 155 days, kids born in 2007-2009 will no longer qualify. Something needs to give.
