Newer isn't always better. Artist Catherine Lewis is reviving ancient Welsh crafts for a new generation. (via BBC Cymru Wales)
Wow! Inspiring.
Isn't this a scene that we can all relate to? It's titled "Threading the Needle" and was painted by Charles Meer Webb (British, 1830 - 1895). Webb was known fo...r his paintings that depicted interior scenes - both in the home and important historical scenes. If you have difficulties threading a needle, check out this great article from Mary Corbet's Needle 'n Thread at https://www.needlenthread.com/20//on-threading-needle.html #paintings #embroidery
From our ICE Exhibit this felted shawl is by Fenella Temmerman. Nuno felted merino wool tops and tissue silk, embellished with alpaca, silk, cotton gauze, English Leicester locks. All wool is undyed and natural. "I love to watch the drama of ice melting. On the Assiniboine River, Ice Flows crash into bridges, are turned around, moving on downstream. Each individual Ice Flow tells its' own story, embracing the debris of winter. Ice melting on the shorelines of Lake Winnipeg brings its own random musical drama as the ice creaks and cracks, icicles drip and fall. This garment speaks to these different layers of transformation, of letting go and discovering a different flow." #tfamartists #iceexhibit #fibreartist #manitobaartist

Beautiful work by Manitoba Artists.
Really love the colours of my most recent commission Northern Lights. Needle felting with free motion embroidery. Merino, Angelina fibres and a lot of silk!
From our Ice Exhibit these two pieces are by Pat Findlay. The first piece is called Black Ice..I had a piece of mono-printed fabric that just didn't work. I over dyed it and WOW. Knowing that I needed a piece for this exhibit I felt that the colours and texture worked perfectly. The second piece is called Snow Fall.. This is the final piece in a series based on falling snow. I was imagining the soft gentle snowfall that sometimes come in the early evening, just about dusk. #tfamartists #iceexhibit #fibreartist #manitobaartist

‘Ice Fishing’ by Pat Crandell is part of TFAM’s ICE Exhibit. I wanted to do a picture with my granddaughters, who enjoy ice fishing. #tfamartists #iceexhibit #fibreartist # textile artist #manitobaartist
Painting with wool This painting was created with 100% wool. I don’t use any paint. Layer by layer I place multiple colors of wool fibers on fabric surfaces fo...rming landscapes, floral scenes, and portraits. The fibers are then compressed under a glass surface, imitating the appearance of watercolors, oils, and charcoal paintings. See more
What a great project and a beautiful piece!
Very excited to see my piece - Souvenirs d'antan accepted to the Surface Design Journal's Fifth Annual International Exhibition in Print: Devotion: Sewing the Sacred juried by the Surface Design Association Managing editor Lauren Sinner and Artist and educator Jovencio de la Paz.More to come later. I'm off to do a happy dance.
It’s finally finished! The title is Whitewash 2020. It’s 100x140.5cm and has almost half a million stitches in heavy 12wt thread. I took the photo while hanging... over a cruise ship balcony which my husband wasn’t too happy about, especially when the polarizing filter fell off the lens . We got it back and it was fine even though it landed four floors down. It’s a giclèe print of that photo onto silk habotai with freemotion embroidery over the top. I’ve foiled the edges. The art statement is: My wave series explores the illusion of serenity when the reality is cold, crushing and inhospitable. Due to the pandemic Melbourne has had a hard lockdown for many months, we are unable to leave home except for exercise, food, medical care or permitted work. Yet when I look out the window the world appears tranquil and at peace. Entered into The New Quilt Exhibition with four hours to spare. Phew! Thread by WonderFil Specialty Threads, quilted on my Bernina Australia 750 QE domestic machine, silk and acrylic paint by Jacquard Products, printing by Frankie and Swiss. Lots of technical expertise and phone support provided by Heights Sewing Centre as I currently can’t take my machine to Geelong for a service since we can’t travel more than 5km from home.
Creativity is a way of sharing your soul with the world. - Brené Brown This is a sculpture we have in our garden made by Tinka Jordy.
TFAM has a lot going on this fall, from Virtual Meet-Ups and Workshops to Online Exhibitions. To find out more go to our website @ tfamartists.ca. This piece from our ICE Exhibit is ‘Early Winter’ by Theresa Shaw ....Winter can come suddenly on the prairie. This piece was inspired by images out my window as I travelled across the prairie last November. Snow started falling and drifting and collecting along fences, ice formed on ponds, and geese flew overhead - time to head south. #tfamartists #iceexhibit # fibreartist #textileartist #manitobaartist
Amazing knitting.
TFAM ICE Exhibit is on display for one more week at Gallery in the Park in Altona,MB (till Sept.26th). This felted piece by Patricia Anderson is called ‘Frosted Poppies’....I love the delicacy and beauty of poppies, I always have them in my garden and even though they seem so fragile there is a permanence about them as they come back year after year, popping up in the most unlikely places. #tfamartists #iceexhibit #fibreartist #manitobaartist @galleryinthepark
