Emergency Business Account Info Scotiabank... The Canada Emergency Business Account is available starting April 9. At Scotiabank, we know that small businesses like yours are the backbone of our nation’s economy. During these challenging times, we also know that it’s likely your business has been financially impacted by COVID-19. To aid small business owners with their most pressing needs, and position the economy to recover, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the Canada Emergency Business Account (CEBA) on March 27. This loan of $40,000 is interest-free until December 31, 2022, and is designed to assist small business owners in these challenging times. We’d like to explain in further detail what CEBA entails, and how it can benefit you-to make it as easy as possible for you to access this support. What is CEBA? CEBA is a government-guaranteed loan of $40,000, designed to help small business owners meet their immediate cash flow needs. To be eligible, businesses must have paid between $50,000 and $1 million in payroll for 2019. Key details include: 0% interest until December 31, 2022. No principal payments until December 31, 2022. Principal repayments can be made voluntarily at any time, without fees or penalties. $10,000 loan forgiveness is available, provided $30,000 is paid back on or before December 31, 2022. If any part of the balance is not paid by December 31, 2022, the remaining balance will be converted to a three-year term loan at 5% annual interest, paid monthly, effective January 1, 2023. The full balance must be repaid no later than December 31, 2025. When and how can you apply? You will be able to apply for CEBA through Scotia OnLine banking or our Scotia mobile banking app starting April 9. Using the online portal will be the quickest, most efficient way to apply, as our contact centres and branches are not yet set up to process applications. If you do not currently use Scotia OnLine or our Scotia mobile banking app, we encourage you to enrol now to make it easier to apply for CEBA. Once you are approved for CEBA, you will receive a deposit of $40,000 in your operating account within five business days, with the corresponding loan displaying as ScotiaLine for Business VISA within online banking. **Important Update Released** On Wednesday April 8, 2020, the federal government has released updates on the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS) program that provides 75% wage subsidy. The key update is the eligibility requirements have been relaxed for the first period, and additional comparisons have been allowed to account for organizations founded after February 2019.... Updates to the first payroll period (March 15 to April 11): Organizations will be eligible for organizations seeing a 15% drop in revenue compared to ONE of the following periods: March 2019, or Average of February and January 2020. Updates to the second and third periods (April 12 to June 6): Organizations will be eligible for organizations seeing a 30% drop in revenue compared to ONE of the following periods: April 2019 (or May 2019, if in the appropriate month), or Average of February and January 2020.
