We didn't have designer clothes. Most came from Fields and SAAN and some homemade. And we wore what our parents bought us. We were barefoot in the summer and You thought your parents were rich if you went to Sears or The Bay. There was no Walmart or Target and Shopping at K-Mart for a blue light special while eating McDonald's was a treat. So was going for ice cream on a hot day! Riding anywhere in the car with no seat belts or riding in the back of a pick up truck seemed saf...e at the time. I loved going to drive in movies, usually in our PJ's!! The popcorn in a brown paper bag with so much butter on it you could see it seeping through. 20 cents for a bottle of coke and 10 cents got you candy cigarettes You took your school clothes off as soon as you got home and put on your play clothes. We had to do our homework before being allowed outside to play. We ate dinner at the table as a family. There was no taking or picking you up in the car to go to school unless there was a blizzard lol! We wore grocery bags in our boots and TVs didn’t have remotes, we had to actually get up to change the channel. We played Hopscotch, Cowboys and Indians, Cops and Robbers, Red Light Green Light, Hide & Seek, Truth or Dare, jump rope, Tag, Baseball, Kick Ball, Dodge-ball, Red rover, rode bikes, spent the night outside in tents in the back lawn! Staying in the house was a punishment!! We ate what Mom made for dinner or we ate nothing at all. (We weren’t allowed to leave the table until our plate was clear). There was no bottled water; we drank from the tap or the water hose (hot). We had chores and did them. We played in red mud and loved every minute of it!! We watched Disney every Sunday night and cartoons on Saturday mornings, and rode our bikes for hours without a cell phone. If someone had a fight, that's what it was and we were friends again a week later, if not SOONER. We played til dark, sunset was our curfew. School was mandatory and teachers and police were people who you could TRUST and respect. We watched our mouths around our elders because ALL of our Aunts, Uncles, Grandpas and Grandmas also disciplined! You didn't want them telling your PARENTS if you misbehaved. Spankings and groundings were real and hated. These were the good ole days. I loved my childhood...!!! Kids these days will never understand how we grew up!!! ***Good Times*** Copy & Paste if this is how you grew up So true!
