Its been a year since I wrote this but I was re-reading a bunch of old posts and wanted to share this challenge with our readers and customers. When we went as a family to a Hutterite farm today in Waldeck we were invited into the gardener's home after loading up some veg. Once inside we found ourselves surrounded by a large family of amazing individuals. Peter the gardener introduced us to his son Willie, whom introduced us to his son Thomas. The ladies passed our baby Faye ...around and they showered us with snacks and incredible stories not only of their own, but of their forefathers and their history. The ladies and gentlemen interacted with our boys and ENGAGED with them rather than interrupting or ignoring them. Through this business we support and are supported by a variety of different kinds of farms and I've noticed this: From small SK dirt farmers to larger operations such as the Hutterites, the impact of my very new interactions with these producers is striking me hard... Our lack of connection with the people that feed us. Markets have always been a place of social gathering, interactions between the producers and consumers, a place to catch up with neighbours and friends. Now, in large box grocery stores we see the lack of character, environment and SELF-checkout culture wiping that out very effectively. Presently none of us can manage to avoid big grocery stores all together, but... next time you do go I want to challenge each one of you to keep your head up while you push your cart, make eye contact and smile to everyone you can, greet your acquaintances with no fear of having a 2 minute conversation, have a 5 minute conversation with those you do know, don't use the self checkout and make your cashier's day by offering her a compliment or thanking her for her tedious work. I'm inspired by Peter the gardener, his family and friends tonight. What inspired me? Connection. Our time on earth is precious. Lets use every moment we can to connect with those around us in meaningful ways. See more

LOCAL FARM HAS SOME PORK BOXES TO SELL!! PLEASE HELP OUT AND SHARE THIS POST. Hello everyone, who couldn't use an extra ham or two, some sausage, pork chops and bacon in the freezer?! We have been contacted by a local farm with 6 pigs they have raised and need to move asap to make room for the incoming lambs.. We will be putting $300/200/100 sized pork boxes together to help them move this product. ... A bit about them: They are the Davidson family. A family of 5 living on a hobby farm with a large garden just 6 miles south of Moose Jaw. They have been there just shy of 5 years and have enjoyed raising a multitude of animals and the gift of providing their own family and contacts with local chicken, eggs, lamb, beef and now pork. These pigs are fed local hay as well as a corn/barley mixture purchased directly from the neighbouring farm. Let's show our support for the raising of healthy animals and local products and welcome the Davidson family into the Front Door community with a bang. Please comment below and commit to a box. We will be butchering around the 10th of feb and moving product Aprox 10 days after that.
