It is with heavy hearts that we announce the Grey Jazz Big Band has lost its voice. Our own Bill Luxton passed away at home on Saturday July 13. Bill was an integral part of the Ottawa entertainment scene for over fifty years, starting with CJOH TV as announcer host on Morning Magazine, Lunch Party, The Amazing Kreskin, and the long running Willy and Floyd, syndicated across Canada. On stage he performed with the Ottawa Little Theater, Upper Canada Playhouse in Morrisburg, ... The Cathedral Players, and took leading roles with the Orpheus Musical Theatre, including The Sound of Music, The King and I, Gigi, and My Fair Lady. For the past twenty five years he has been the MC and male vocalist with The Grey Jazz Big Band. Bill was a gentleman to his fingertips handsome, urbane, unflappable. He was the consummate professional punctual, letter perfect, in command of his material, unfailingly courteous, easy to work with. He passionately loved being a performer and those of us who were privileged to work with him benefitted from absorbing his enthusiasm, and his vast knowledge, and his absolute command of his profession. Above all, Bill was a devoted and proud family man, sharing a long enduring romance with his dear wife Toots. We mourn his passing, we rejoice in having known him, and so we say goodbye dear friend and Bill Thanks For The Memories. See more
