OK, NHL fans.... playoffs are upon us!!! Did you know.... sound levels in a playoff NHL series have been studied and found to be loud enough to damage hearing? So, if you're going to a game... bring that hearing protection!!! Apologies to Oilers fans for this study... I'm sure fans from any team would be just as noisy...???? :) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1660593/

What do we hear?? The recent social media "Yanny" vs "Laurel" controversy highlights the need to hear ALL the sounds of speech. In the sample below, as you move the slider towards the word "Laurel", you'll start to hear "Laurel"... why? because you are hearing more low-frequency speech sounds, less of the higher-frequency sounds.... Not unlike the way a person with a high-frequency hearing loss may misunderstand speech in everyday conversation. Fortunately, for those with hearing loss, the good news is that help is available!! If you need more clarity in everyday conversations, contact us for information!

Did you know.... Its not just noise that damages the auditory system. Certain medical conditions can contribute to hearing loss. So can some medications....or combinations of certain medications. Even some inhaled air-borne chemicals can lodge in the inner ear and cause damage (not covered in this article). Keep your ears and auditory/vestibular system as healthy as possible... insist on seeing an Audiologist (who has studied ototoxicity) to keep your hearing as good as possible, to prevent tinnitus, and to preserve vestibular function! https://www.rd.com/health/conditions/hearing-loss-causes/
