The Irish Shop 14.11.2020

Hi. Long time no fb but we wanted to share exciting (at least for us) news with you - we are retiring...again...and closing the store. Everything in the store is on sale, so drop by to pick up a good deal while we still have lots of stock. Think Christmas! We are taking special orders on tartan scarves and ties until the end of October. These are popular Christmas gifts. We are not doing any more layawys and, of course, all sales are final. If you are not in the market for deals, drop by the store anyway to say goodbye. We would love to see you. Our hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10 to 4:45 closed Sunday and Monday.

The little angel below is Emily Martin's 14 mth. old daughter, Maeve. Maeve is modeling a onesie with attached 'kilt'. It comes in red, blue or green tartan. You may know Emily from her time with Music Fest; she is now with ShowPlace. Thanks for sharing the photo, Emily. The handsome young man is our 3 yr. old grandson, Liam, showing off his Irishness. If you are looking for clothes for little ones, drop by the store to check out our catalogues. We can usually get items withi...n a week/10 day. We haven't received any Irish recipes yet...how about some? Murphy was in court for theft. The verdict was read out, "Not guilty." "That's grand," shouted Murphy."Does that mean I can keep the stuff?"

Hi, We hope everyone had a safe and great St. Paddy's weekend. Even though the weather was cold, it was nice to see the crowds braving the wind on George St. on Sunday for the parade. Tomorrow, close your eyes, think of flowers, don't look out of the window and believe what the calendar says....it's the first day of spring. To celebrate, all our Marino wool Aran sweaters will be on sale from now until the end of the March at 20% off. Our exquisite linen and cotton cardigans... are also included. And for the fashionistas among you who appreciate the luxury of designer clothes, we have 3 only spring capes at 25% off. Designed by Jimmy Hourihan of Dublin, the capes are wool and cashmere, incredibly soft and cozy but oh, so elegant. Available in 1 each of light mushroom, teal and deep plum. Originally $320 now $240. This spring sale is valid on current stock only. Sorry, no lay-aways. Congrats to Nikki and Jason who celebrated an anniversary last weekend over a delicious Guinness Irish stew. Any one out there with a favourite Irish recipe? Maybe Granny's soda bread, or a special family recipe for bread pudding. If so, please post it. Sharing recipes is one more way to keep our heritage thriving. A young woman walked into a shop in Kilkenny and asked if she could try on a dress in the window. The shopkeeper replied that he'd prefer it if she used the changing room. (Groan.....) Stay safe.

Hi Everyone! Sorry I haven't been in touch for a while. I couldn't get into the business page but a BIG THANKS (yes, I'm shouting) to Nikki Stevenson who rescued me. First of all: One of our wonderful customers - 17 yr old Kaitlin O'Grady from Douro - is in the middle of a battle with cancer. Now we KNOW she will win that battle but the family is having a bit of a struggle with expenses - travel to sick kids, meds not covered by OHIP, etc. They are holding a benefit auct...ion and get-together at the Douro community centre tonight (Fri) starting at 7:00. All sorts of good stuff up for grabs including from our store. Why not start St. Paddy's weekend off by supporting this family? Tomorrow (Sat) the Ptb. Irish Society is holding the Annual St. Patrick's Day celebration at the Evinrude Centre. Doors open at 4:00 pm. We've got a whole lot of new T-shirts in so if you haven't picked yours up yet drop by the store. You've got to look spiffy for the big day - you can't go drinking green beer in a raggedy old shirt. Tony Walsh and family welcomed a new grandchild about a month ago but we don't have any more info. How about some pics??? We'll be open ALL DAY Monday, the 17th. We don't usually open until 1:00 on Mondays but it is a special day after all! Don't forget the flag raising is on Sunday at 1 pm at City Hall to commemorate the Irish settlers and to kick-off Irish Week. The parade starts from City Hall at 2:00. Pat and I will be in the Leprechaun-mobile - hope to see you there. LA FHEILE PADRAIG.......HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY PS: Please remember Kaitlin in your prayers.
