From simpler times, the view from the foot of Mill Street! In the lower left is the footpath to the beach. The dominant building is the Cedar Crescent Casino - ...one in a string of dance halls along the Huron coast. Behind that is the breakwall, rubble at that time! People can be seen along the harbourfront behind the famous casino. I wonder who can identify the small building on the harbour wall. To the right of it is what once was a boathouse, and is currently the popular Harbourlite restaurant. To the right is probably some equipment for unloading the fishing boats - a few of which can be seen in the water. It appears, that in those early days, we had mini golf along Elgin Street. The little admission building, and novelty shop, was later replaced by "the Station", home to the world famous Port Elgin and North Shore Railroad. To the right of that is a fish house, previously the MacKay mill, later the Sunset Lodge, and now a condominium. In the distance, behind the fish house is probably "Punch" Brill's boat house, and in the distance, behind that is probably the water treatment plant outflow. (The cement base of that is there today.) Lots of sand for commercial fishing parking and recreational parking. What have I missed?? See more

Did you think this was biodegradable and harmless when it was tossed aside? Cigarette butts are the most littered item on the earth. These discarded butts leach... toxic chemicals such as nicotine, arsenic and lead into the earth and water. Exposure to these chemicals can kill wildlife and inhibit plant growth. A cigarette filter may look like cotton but it is not. The filter is made of tightly packed plastic fibres which will not biodegrade. In many years it will break apart but will leave behind microplastic pollution. If you smoke, we want you to understand the effect your litter has on the environment and please Mind Your Butts. #actiononlitter #wastereductionweek See more
