Next up in our Arts Exchange: Introducing Shantell Powell! @shanmonster... Shantell is a storyteller and has been all her life. She tells her stories through oral tradition, written media, illustration, and prop creation. Perhaps because of her unusual childhood, she has always been drawn to outsider narratives and the concept of othering. Growing up on the land gives her a strong respect for conservation and for the interplay between humans and nature. Her art reflects these interests. As an Inuk raised far removed from her cultural heritage, she decolonizes herself by immersing her approach in the world of Inuit folklore. She is the author, illustrator, and photographer for a picture book on Inuit folklore exploring themes of strong women, gender-bending, and transformation. This piece, Skinfolk, was recently published in Feminist Studies. #MTSpace #MultiCulturalTheatre #MultiCulturalSpaces #MTSpaceArtsExchange #ArtsKW #KWArts #WRAwesome #KWAwesome #ErasingTheMargins #AllForArts
