Back in 2005 I met Norma and Gwen Husbands and they shared the story of this 1931 wedding at Union United Church...known as "The Colored Church:. The groom(a wi...dow born in Barbados) was a painter... His bride was born in Montreal and her parents were from the island of Nevis. They were married by Rev. Charles Este... The recorded records stated...... "On the 11th day of June in the Year of our Lord One Thousand, Nine hundred and and 31, McDonald Burke of Montreal, painter,widower , son of S burke of Christ Church , Barbados B.W.I and Elizabeth Jones, his wife of the same place and Annette Louisa Dore of Montreal, spinster, daughter of James Dore of Nevis , British West Indies and Martha Ann Taylor his wife of the same place both parties being of Legal age, were married by me upon the publication of bans , and without opposition in the presence of the undersigned witnesses, friends of the bride and the bridegroom Annette Louisa Dore MacDonald Burke Charles Este Minister This image appears in the 100 years of Faith documentary about Union United Church.
