Checking in with our Physiotherapist @arasr11 and a fun way to strengthen up your quads. Be sure to check with your physio prior to attempting this for comfort and safety reasons. #repost We often see a number of people preaching about the benefits of Nordic hamstring curls as an effective way to increase hamstring tendon strength and integrity following injury. There are benefits of the very same exercise as a warm-up tool and injury prevention tool in sports such as... football (soccer) and rugby. However, we seldom hear about the Reverse Nordic Curl (as seen in the video). There is little research on the benefits of this exercise but from the resources available, one such paper (Alonso-Fernandez D 1 et al. 2018) documents benefits including but not limited to: Increased fascicle length Muscle thickness Cross-sectional area In sports or activities where quad muscle length, flexibility and strength are important factors, eccentric exercises are shown to be excellent options for improving the integrity of the muscle and tendinous structure, while increasing length, strength and control which may help mitigate any excessive strain placed on that muscle and region during sport. TAKE NOTE: This exercise is not meant for EVERYONE, so please check with your therapist or trainer before giving it a go to ensure you are ready and capable of doing this and not likely to injure yourself. #quads #eccentrics #reversenordiccurl #physiotherapy #rehab #exercise #strength #mobility #toronto #topsphysio #etobicoke #etobicokegeneralhospital #etobicokewellnesscenter See more

Shout out to our devoted and hardworking patient @lex1719 for his strong effort today as he progresses through his #aclrehab following his reconstructive surgery. Balance and proprioception training are key to a proper rehab Mix things up in your workout by challenging you balance and proprioception with a little dual task training and external perturbation. #postop #rehab #sports #physiotherapy #knees #kneeinjury #balancetraining #propeioception #etobicoke #etobicokegeneralhospital #williamoslerhealthsystem #topsphysio

Bored with your simple push-up routine? Spice up your workout with this modification that I like to call earthquake push-ups and give your body a bigger challenge by adding an extra dimension of stabilization work. Give them a shot and pump up that upper body for the weekend on the beach. #earthquakepushups #shoulders #beachseason #workout #rehabilitation #physiotherapy #chiropractor #registeredmassagetherapy #fitness #etobicoke #williamoslerhealthsystem #topsphysio

An early Saturday morning read. Thanks for the great post @docmills.dpt with @get_repost People, this isnt just something to be used as a prank. Its science. Its how phantom limb pain was first treated with amputees, and its shaping how medical professionals are treating patients with persistent pain RIGHT NOW. ... But how can things hurt if they arent there!? Because pain is an OUTPUT. The brain is more powerful than we have historically given it credit. Ive always been a cynical human, and its always been easy for me to be really negative towards my outlook on pain and personal injuries. But this stuff... this stuff has allowed me to solve my own persistent shoulder pain thats been vexing me for TWO YEARS. Positive mindset matters. Words matter. If you have questions, ask me. I can help. #physiotherapy #rehabilitation #phantomlimbs #braingames ##ismashthehand #etobicoke #topsphysio #williamoslerhealthsystem See more

Thanks to @themvmtpts for sharing this piece of valuable information that everyone should know, especially all those runners who are consistently told to stretch or roll out their IT-bands to solve their problems. Dont just roll, come in and have your problems properly assessed and treated by a registered health professional. #sportsphysio #physiotherapy #registeredmassagetherapy #chiropractic #topsphysio #etobicoke #running #injuries #rehab #williamoslerhealthsystem

Will you be watching the World Cup? Will you be dancing the streets cheering your teams victories, or lining the pitch showing off your skills and attempting to be the next #Ronaldo or #Messi? We here at @tops_physio will be showing our colours over the next few weeks in support of our teams. If you were unlucky enough to hurt yourself jumping up and down in the stands, on the street, at the bar, on the field, be sure to stop on by and show us who you will be supporting while you get your injuries fixed up. #worldcup2018 #soccer #football #futbol #sportsinjuries #sportsrehab #sportphysio #physiotherapy #chiropractic #registeredmassagetherapy #etobicoke #williamoslerhealthsystem #topsphysio

Middle stage #plyometrics with one of our patients at #topsphysio. Jumping forwards and backwards is just as important as side to side. Some sports require lateral movements with subsequent vertical translation. Dont forget to train these movements to reduce re-injury rates when returning to sports. #learningtojump #sports #sportsrehab #physiotherapy #etobicoke #williamoslerhealthsystem

Something that I hear far too often and spend much time educating patients about. Rehab does not end and should not end when pain stops, always continue until advised by your therapist. Another frequently encountered question that goes hand in hand, I only have so much insurance coverage so I can only come once or twice. Always listen to your therapist if you want the best results and prevent your injuries from recurring. #physiotherapy #painmanagement #healthandwellness #yourhealthismoreimportant #notawasteoftimeormoney #etobicoke #etobicokegeneralhospital #williamoslerhealthsystem #topsphysio

Foam rolling is a type of self-myofascial release which is becoming frequently more popular as it is reported to have several benefits including but not limited to increasing short term flexibility (MacDonald, 2013) and increasing range of motion without affecting muscle performance (Cheatham et al. 2015) to decreasing the effects of DOMS. For best effects, we suggest using foam rolling pre-workout as a part of your warm-up routine to help increase acute flexibility, follow...ed by a sequence of dynamic stretches and mobility work. And if you have time post-workout, foam rolling the trained areas can be beneficial to help reduce delayed-onset muscle soreness (Pearcey, 2015). This may sound conflicting but just remember, many of the effects of foam rolling do not occur from actually breaking up or loosening the knots in tight muscles. Most of the relief experienced, as new research shows, is due to neurological changes affecting our bodys perception of the pain, etc. We suggest no more than 2-5 mins when foam rolling, utilizing a slow even tempo on an area for anywhere from 10- 120 seconds until symptoms of tightness or discomfort subside. Please remember that foam rolling is not a tool to fix any major biomechanical issues or injuries, please consult a physiotherapist or clinician to assess the problem and help get you back on track. #physiotherapy #exercise #exerciseismedicine #foamrolling #selfmyofascialrelease #sportsmedicine #etobicoke #williamoslerhealthsystem #topsphysio
