This week the Artillery Operations course continued to refine their understanding of the operational planning process (OPP) through various in-class exercises that challenged the students’ abilities to generate products such as high value target lists, high payoff target lists, effects guidance matrices, and Artillery INTSUMs. The students continue to impress the staff with their ability to grasp and apply the concepts of OPP to produce detailed and comprehensive reports and ...returns. COVID-19 continues to pose a significant challenge to day-to-day operations in CFB Gagetown, but the candidates ensure that the security of the community and themselves remains paramount through strict adherence to FHPMs. Stream specific days continue for the candidates of AIG serial 2001 as the STA students execute a CPX to evaluate Unmanned Aerial System Command Post Operations with assistance from W Bty (Bdr Sisco). Cette semaine les candidats du cours d’officiers des opérations d’artillerie ont continués de raffiner leurs connaissances dans le processus de décision opérationnel avec plusieurs exercices qui ont mis à l’épreuve les habiletés des candidats tels que produire des matrices de direction des effets et des rapports d’intelligence d’artillerie. Les étudiants ont continué d’impressionner les instructeurs avec leurs rapide compréhension des concepts du processus de décision opérationnel et la production de rapports et comptes rendus complexes. La COVID-19 continue d’être un défi de taille pour les opérations routinières de la BFC Gagetown, mais les candidats s’assurent que leur sécurité et celle de la communauté ne soient jamais compromises en adhérant strictement aux mesures de protections sanitaires en place. Les jours spécifique à leur branche se poursuivent pour les candidats de l'IAA 2001 alors que les étudiants de la SAO exécutent un XPC pour évaluer les opérations du poste de commande du système aérien sans pilote avec l'aide de la Bie W (Bdr Sisco).

(30 January 2021) Happy Birthday to the RCAS! Since the permanent force of the Canadian Artillery’s inception in 1871, excellence in gunnery instruction has been a cornerstone of Artillery success. In 1946 the Royal Canadian School of Artillery (RCSA) was born when the Second World War Canadian Artillery Training Centre in Shilo, Manitoba was chosen to be the permanent home of a school for field, medium, and anti-tank artillery. All other artillery schools in Canada had clo...sed by 1960 and the RCAS took up the mantle of instructing all disciplines within the artillery, including anti-aircraft gunnery. In 1970, the RCSA was moved from Shilo to Gagetown, NB, along with Infantry and Armoured schools, to form the Combat Arms School at CFB Gagetown Combat Training Centre. In 1995, the Air Defence Artillery School was also moved to CFB Gagetown. Soon after the Field and Air Defence Artillery Schools were amalgamated and formed The Royal Canadian Artillery School (RCAS). Two years later in 1997, the RCA Battle School in Shilo, where all Regular Force and many reservists received training in gunnery, was disbanded. The RCAS in Gagetown later took over as the central location for basic gunnery training. Throughout all these changes and years, the school has supplied brilliant Gunners and officers and continues a tradition of excellent training while safely navigating the hardships of Covid-19. _______________________________________________________________________ (le 30 janvier 2021) Joyeux anniversaire EARC! Depuis l’insertion permanente de la force de l’artillerie canadienne en 1871, l’excellence dans l’instruction de l’artillerie a toujours été primordiale au succès de l’institution. En 1946, l’école royale d’artillerie canadienne fut fondée au centre d’entrainement d’artillerie de la seconde guerre mondiale à Shilo, Manitoba. C’est donc devenu le domicile permanent de l’instruction sur l’artillerie légère, de campagne et anti-blindé. En 1960 toutes les autres écoles d’artillerie ont fermées leurs portes et EARC est a commencé à enseigner toute discipline d’artillerie, incluant l’artillerie anti-aérienne. En 1970, l’EARC déménagea à Gagetown au Nouveau-Brunswick avec l’école d’infanterie et de blindé pour former l’école des armes de combats au centre d’entrainement de combat. En 1995, l’école de défense aérienne déménagea à Gagetown et s’intégra avec l’école de l’artillerie de compagne. Le résultat fut l’EARC comme on l’a connait aujourd’hui. Deux ans plus tard en 1997 l’école de bataille à Shilo, où plusieurs réservistes et membre de la force régulière recevaient leur entrainement d’artillerie de base, fut démantelée. L’EARC prit donc aussi cette responsabilité en tant que location central pour tout entrainement lié à l’artillerie. Durant toutes ses années, l’école généra d’excellent artilleurs et officiers, et continue la tradition de donner de l’instruction sans égale.

While under strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols, and working in their authorized bubbles, having completed their 8-hour Individual Combat Estimate Exams last Friday, the students of the Artillery Operations Officer Course await their results while beginning to dive into the Operational Planning Process this week. They continue to maintain confinement to base in order to protect the community and themselves, but remain laser-focused at developing themselves professionally a...fter hours by studying ongoing conflicts in the world. While COVID-19 continues to limit the availability of fitness resources, the students keep themselves mentally and physically fit in order to ensure that they are Mission Ready upon completion of their course. Dans le strict respect des protocoles COVID-19, et travaillant dans leurs bulles autorisées, ayant maintenant complété leurs appréciation de combat de 8 heures vendredi dernier. Les candidats du cours d'officiers des opérations d'artillerie attendent leurs résultats tout en commençant d'aborder le processus de planification opérationnel au cours de cette semaine. Ils continuent leur confinement sur la base dans le but de protéger la communauté et eux-mêmes, et poursuivent leur entraînement dans leurs quartiers en soirée en étudiant des conflits d'actualité dans le monde. Pendant que le COVID-19 continue de limiter la disponibilité des ressources en entraînement physique, les étudiants continuent de se maintenir en forme physique et mentale afin de rester déployables une fois leur cours terminé.

The Artillery Operations Course began on 5 January 2021, under strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols. Over the last 2 weeks, the candidates have been busy reviewing land doctrine and targeting theory. The next 5 weeks will prepare them to work as officers in the coordination centre within a brigade. Le cours d'opérations d'artillerie a commencé le 5 janvier 2021, dans le strict respect des protocoles COVID-19. WO Luten receives the Combat Training Center (CTC) Commanders Commendation for their outstanding dedication as the Sergeant Major of Advanced Training. They executed the first distance learning serial of the Battery Sergeant Major (BSM) Course in the Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery School history. L'Adj Luten reçoit la mention élogieuse du commandant du Centre d’instruction au combat (CIC) pour leur dévouement exceptionnel à titre de sergent-major de l'instruction avancée. 09 Sep 2020 - The RCAS enjoyed their annual golf day at the Gage Golf Course. Maj Mullins, Capt Ritchie, Sgt Keough and Bdr Penner successfully defended their 2019 title by holding off all competitors and win by 1 stroke in the 4 person scramble. 09 Sep 2020 - L'ÉARC a apprécié son tournoi de golf annuel au terrain de golf Gage. Le Maj Mullins, Capt Ritchie, Sgt Keough et le Bdr Penner ont défendu leur titre de 2019 en l'emportant par un coup dans la compétition à 4 personnes.

Maj. Mullins pushed himself to a new PB for the (Virtual) Canada Army Run 15Km. Le Maj. Mullins a repoussé ses limites pour atteindre un record personnel à la Course de l'Armée du Canada 15Km (Virtuelle).

10 Sep 2020 The AIG course have started the common phase of the curriculum on the reconnaissance at the Gun Area. WO Caron practicing drills on the dual DAGR procedures. This included: -16.6km rucksack march -2.8 Km sandbag portage -10 km of canoeing -3Km Rucksack march to the finish line. ... They achieve an amazing time of 5 hours and 28 minutes Félicitations au Capt Haug et au Capt Skelsey qui ont représenté lEARC en participant à la compétition Bushman 2020 organisée par le 2 RCR. This week the AIG and IG course combined once more and began covering the fundamentals of Ballistic Theory. Capt Fraser from the Ammunition and Equipment cell explains the differences between Meteorological Computer Messages and Meteorological Gridded Messages and the effects on External Ballistics. WO Wolfe makes careful notes concerning the stages of Internal Ballistics and WO Belanger explains the dynamics of projectile yaw to one of his peers. This week Assistant Instructor-in-Gunnery (AIG) and Instructor-in-Gunnery (IG) students completed the Instructor Supervisor (IS) course. The IS course teaches students how to monitor and assess subordinate instructors and how to provide constructive feedback. AIG and IG students gained valuable skills throughout the week that will ensure training delivered at the RCAS is to the highest standard. Cette semaine les cours dassistant-instructeur en artilleur (AIA) et dinstructeur en artillerie (IA) ont complété le cours dinstructeur superviseur (IS). Le cours dIS montre aux étudiants comment monitorer et évaluer les instructeurs et comment donner des contre-rendu efficace. Les étudiants ont obtenu des habilitées très importantes tout au long de la semaine qui assure que les instructeurs de lEARC sont excellent.

AIT 1 - A student on the Assistant Instructor-in-Gunnery (AIG) course explains how he creates a lesson plan while participating in Alternate Instructional Techniques (AIT) classes. Pendant le cours de Techniques dinstruction alternatives, un étudiant du cours dassistant instructeur en artillerie (AIA) explique comment créer un plan de leçon. AIT 2 - A student on the Instructor-in Gunnery (IG) course designs an exercise scenario while participating in Alternate Instructional... Techniques (AIT) classes. Pendant le cours de Techniques dinstruction alternatives, un étudiant du cours dinstructeur en artillerie (IA) construit un scenario pour valider la comprehension de ses eleves.

The JTAC Instructor (JTAC-I) course was able to finally begin on July 6th 2020. JTAC-I 2001 was one of the first courses to begin at the RCAS after the COVID-19 training pause was lifted. Adjusting to the COVID-19 procedures presented unique opportunities that students were able to capitalize on. The two week isolation period in CFB Gagetown gave students plenty of time to study and practice for the entrance exam, which resulted in a historically rare 100 percent pass rate. O...n August 14th 2020 the RCAS officially qualified 5 JTAC-I students on their final FTX in CFB Valcartier. Bravo Zulu. Le cours jtac instructeur (JTAC-I) a finalement pu commencer le 6 juillet 2020. JTAC-I 2001 a été lun des premiers cours à commencer au RCAS après la pause de formation COVID-19 a été levée. Ladaptation aux procédures COVIDE-19 a offert des occasions uniques sur lesquelles les étudiants ont pu tirer parti. La période disolement de deux semaines à la BFC Gagetown a donné aux étudiants beaucoup de temps pour étudier et pratiquer pour lexamen dentrée, ce qui a donné lieu à un taux de réussite historiquement rare de 100 pour cent. On 12 Aug 20 at range control Cmdt RCAS presented Sgt McKinnon with the Cmdts Coin for his professional and compassionate action providing assistance to a RCAS member in a time of distress. Students from the IG and AIG courses combined this week to tackle the Artillery Mathematics portion of the course which involved trigonometry, algebra, interpolation, ratio and proportion. La Cmdt et le SMR ont eu le plaisirs dêtre invité par le Cmdt du 1 RNBR , LCol Whelan et son SMR, lAdjuc Evans afin dassister à la cérémonie de promotion de lAdj Chassé. LAdj Chassé a été muter il y a deux ans au 1 RNBR en tant que spécialiste mortier. Bientôt de retour à lÉARC, lAdj Chassé est muter au sein de la Bie W et aura comme première tâche la gestion dun cours PP1 débutant en sept prochain. La cérémonie sest tenue au Manège militaire de Fredericton en présen...ce de la conjointe, la fille ainsi que la mère de lAdj Chassé. The Cmdt and RSM had the pleasure of being invited by the Cmdt of 1 RNBR , LCol Whelan and his RSM, CWO Evans to attend the promotion ceremony of WO Chassé. WO Chassé was posted two years ago to 1 RNBR as a mortar specialist. Soon to be back at the RCAS, WO Chassé is posted to the W Bty and will have as his first task the programming of a DP1 course starting next September. The ceremony was held at the Fredericton Armoury in the presence of WO Chassé's wife, daughter and mother.

le 30 julliet 2020 les Soldats du QMB-A ont eu la chance de s'entretenir avec l'Adj Luten , Sergent major Entrainement Avancé, sur la vie au quotidien dans les FAC et le déroulement d'une carrière réussie au sein du Régiment Royal. On 30 July 2020 the Soldiers of the BMQ-L had the chance to talk with WO Luten , Advance Training Sergeant Major, about daily life in the CAF and the course of a successful career within the Royal Regiment.

Today the Advanced training cell and the RCAS bid farewell to WO Dave Blais. He served five years in the RCAS with three of them in Advanced Training instructing and coaching new AIG candidates. We thank him for his outstanding professionalism while he was here and wish him and Mel all the best in their new home in Quebec. Aujourd'hui, la cellule dentrainement avancée et lÉARC ont fait leurs adieux à l'Adj Dave Blais. Il a servi cinq ans à lÉARC, dont trois attaché à lentrainement avancée enseignant et entraînant les nouveaux candidats IAA. Nous le remercions pour son professionnalisme exceptionnel pendant qu'il était ici et nous lui souhaitons, ainsi qu'à Mel, le meilleur dans leur nouvelle maison au Quebec.

On 23 July 2020 Sgt Seifker received the CA Comd Coin in recognition of his exemplary performance as Chief Clerk at the Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery School during its response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
