Poppies are to be worn today. Remembrance and thankfulness for all those who served. I would like a moment to honour a forgotten segment of the war effort. 1.4 Million Indians were sent by the British Raj to fight in WW1. Another 2.5 million in WW2. Statistically speaking that amount is more than the soldier count of Canada, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand combined. ... They fought in Europe against the Nazis. They fought in Africa against the Italians. They fought in Burma against the Imperial Japanese. 16000 Caribbean people volunteered in WW1. Another 10000 in WW2. They came from Jamaica, British Guiana, Antigua, Bermuda, Barbuda and the Bahamas. Fighters from around the world came together to end Fascism. They didn’t do it so that we could let ourselves be once again privileged to the point where rhetoric could be used so dangerously. They did it so we could be privileged to do the things we do, freely. I for one am grateful for that opportunity on a daily basis. I get to create colourful samosas for all people to enjoy. This is a privilege that allows me to be happy. It would not be possible without the efforts of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Our response as a company is always to show everyone of all backgrounds equal respect. We wear our poppies in our minds on a daily basis by being mindful that we are privileged and ensure all those who enter our doors are heard and appreciated.
