The Serpent & The Dove 03.03.2021

Do you feel like you’re forever in the shadow? Maybe in the shadow of someone else. Maybe in the shadow of looming sickness. Maybe in the shadow of finances and debt. Know that the shadow is also from God’s hand hiding you and guiding you...and it is not for nothing! He is allowing these shadow times to forge and form you into His polished arrow, He will hide you in His mighty quiver and unleash you when the time is right. Trust His timing, allow yourself to become polished for His use.

January 28 is Bell’s Let’s talk day. Let’s Talk is an awareness campaign created to raise awareness and combat stigma surrounding mental illness in Canada. Since I am based in Canada (I know not all of our readers and followers are), I thought I would take some time to just quickly share a testimony of breakthrough from depression. My name is Kristin and I am the creator behind The Serpent & the Dove. I struggled extensively during and after both of my pregnancies with depr...ession. I was in pastoral ministry for a large portion of my time battling depression, I was facing financial struggles, health issues and a lot more. To be honest, I still don’t have all of the answers on the how’s and why’s of depression but all I know is that- you CAN be a Christian and still struggle with depression. We see examples of this in scripture from Elijah to Job, from Jeremiah to David- we see little hints of their trouble and despair described through scripture. The great Charles Spurgeon himself struggled with depression throughout his ministry. I don’t say this to give you permission not to fight against the spirit of depression, but simply to encourage you that if you are a Christian and feeling condemned because you’re going through depression, know that you’re not alone and that it doesn’t negate your walk with Christ. That said, one thing that ultimately helped me overcome my depression was that I stopped trying to excuse it, I stopped playing the victim in any situation where I felt I was one (even if it was reasonable to think this way), and I adopted a militant aggression against it. I won’t say that I was cured over night from the thoughts and feelings of hopelessness, suicide and despair I battled against but I will say that once I made the decision that I was going to wage war against this spirit in my life, I began to see breakthrough. I will be writing more extensively on my testimony in this area in the future but I felt the need to say something today just to encourage any of you that may be struggling- 1. You’re NOT alone. 2. You CAN get through this! 3. Decide TODAY that you are going to wage war against the spirit of depression! See more
