Dear Town of Bothwell Residents, Here we are once again. The community has received news that a major decision was made regarding the Bothwell Arena. In recent years it has become increasingly difficult to utilize the facility. Including booking ice time, receiving competitive rates or even a return phone call. This decision was made with little to no consultation or input, not only from residents but also from participating clubs and members. At the very least the communit...y and stakeholders deserve to be consulted prior to council making such rash and impactful decisions. ***Let this be a reminder that now more than ever it's imperative that we support all of our local amenities and businesses to continue to keep our rural communities thriving*** Please take a few minutes to listen to the Chatham-Kent Council Meeting regarding the Bothwell Arena at this link below (you can scroll directly to 1:27:27) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CZTx9dUkrw Although the majority of citizens desire lower taxes and understand the financial strain from COVID-19 on everyone including the municipality, it is difficult to understand why this decision was made without a detailed financial analysis being presented, community consultation or a vote to refer to a later date until such important factors are disclosed. This is not what residents want or expect from their council. For anyone that wants to express their concerns in a civilized manner it is recommended that you email the mayor and each councillor directly, as soon as possible.
