I know it can be tough to carve out time for yourself - especially if you are a Momma! or even a working gal! Hands up if you feel incredibily guilty putting time aside for youself?! YOU ARE NOT ALONE - on this! A quick search showed that approximately 60% of individuals feel guilty for practicing self care. ... STOP the madness!! Here are some reason WHY you SHOULD be taking some time for yourself - It gives your brain a chance to re-boot, re-calibrate so that you are able to tackle those external demands. Basically, you can't run on a empty glass - fill that glass UP! It improves your productivity & concentration ... know why? You have taken the time to slow down, concentrate on one thing - YOU! It helps YOU discover (or rediscover) your voice. We spend so much of our day getting so many messages sent to our brain we don't know what is truly OURS. In @jayshetty book "Think like a Monk" he acknowledges the fact "we can't address our thoughts and explore our minds when we're preoccupied". Here are some hacks on HOW to crave out time - Wake up before everyone else Officially book an appointment with YOURSELF -you are a damn important meeting to get to. Turn off gadgets for 10-15 minutes. Literally find a hiding spot and lock that door so no one can bug you ... I am not kidding - go hide. Ask for help to get THAT time - tell someone to watch the kids for a half hour, or trade off with another person to insure you have your time. So the next time you feel that guilt kick in - I want you to say ... F**K THAT SHIT ... I am important and I deserve to make me a priority!!! Christmas may not look the same for many this season and quite possibly it may allow for many, to enjoy the season that much more - no long, stressful drives to the in-laws Whatever your season it going to look like - let's keep your (physical & mental) health in mind. I want to encourage you to freakin move every single day and that could look like a walk with the kids, a 10-20 minute Youtube yoga video or hustling your butt around the house cleaning. JUST MOVE!!... Do something that you enjoy - free yourself from the guilt that you should, can't, must do something else instead. You are just as important as everyone else or that long list of things to do. Find something that brings you joy, be it reading, crafting, journaling ... whatever it is. DO IT! Tis the season of JOY. Be mindful of the foods you eat cuz we know once the season is over we are struggling to get ourselves back on track with our "healthy" eating. Do yourself a favour and keep things in check. For example, if you do have a big family meal coming up, try not to starve yourself prior to attending and then when you are there fill up on the veggies and have coffee instead of dessert. These small little tricks will pay off in the long run! Lastly, if you do have to stay away from family/friends. connect with them in some way. Today's technology has made it so convenient to connect. Don't isolate yourself .... REACH OUT! Want to know what I love about the Fall ... SOUPS All the glorious options of soups!!!... Here is one of our family favourites: Simple Potato & Leek Soup Ingredients- 2 tbsp of butter 2 tbsp of olive oil 3 leeks (about 3 cups) ... use the white portion of the leeks 2lbs of Potatoes (I use red or white potatoes) - diced 6 cups of chicken broth (can use veggie if you wish) salt & pepper 1/4 - 1/2 tsp of cayenne pepper 1/2 tsp of thyme Instructions- 1. Clean & cut the leeks ... cut lengthwise, fan them open to wash out any dirt. Then slice leeks. 2. Melt butter & olive oil on medium heat in a big pot. Add the leeks, stir to coat. Cover the pot & reduce the heat to low, cook for 10 minutes until leeks are soften. Keep an eye out that you don’t burn them! 3. Add the broth, diced potatoes, salt, pepper, cayenne & thyme to the pot. Increase heat to high, bring to a boil. Then lower heat to maintain a low simmer, and cook for 20 minutes or until potatoes are cooked to your liking! 4. Last thing is completely optional ... personal preference. Rob speaks so many truths about the time that is needed to be put into your dream/goal. ... There are days when I don’t want to pursue my dream/goals ... only to just veg out and read or hang out. I just know every little action will get me to my dream. Everyday I am doing something to move the needle towards my dreams! Hey there!! Any other stay at home Mama out there struggling to find their place?! It’s a hard knock life being a stay at home... Mama! You are forever at your children’s beck and call, always have someone around you, and yet you feel so alone! Talk about irony there! Over the last couple of years I have struggled to find my place at home, especially knowing my littlest man will be off to school ... leaving me somewhat empty nesting! Time!! Seems we are seeking more time! Time to run this errand. Time to do this project. Do you find that you never seem to have the time to accomplish everything you wish to accomplish??... Here are a few things that help me (and they may help you) ~ Plan, plan, plan, like I mean plan each hour of your day and stick to it. I know what I am doing pretty much every hour of the day. So get that calendar out or even your phone and plan out your day. This will give you focus on what you are needing and wanting to get done. Prioritize ~ meaning what is most important to get done?! Or even better what is the most challenging TO get done? Do you have a big presentation to do? Do you have a project that requires a lot of focus?Get that done first! What ends up happening is you have this feeling of accomplishment over something that is big and audacious. You then take that feeling and finish the next task with ease. Do not multi-task ... I heard in a podcast (@robdialjr) that you drop your IQ by multitasking. Stay focus on the task at hand. Set a timer ... by setting a timer you zone in to what is needed to be done within that time frame. You will find that you don't dawdle and just get the job done!! Remove any distractions ~ if that means the kids ... get up early and do the work before they take over! Happy Labour Day!!! Tomorrow is a big day for many people ... whether that’s virtual schooling, homeschooling or ‘in house’ schooling. Deep breath we got this!!!... Along with getting ready for class ... we have to get ready for lunches!!!! Gosh, do you find you run out of ideas within a few days? Or you do the same thing every single day for the kids lunches?! Or get frustrated that half the lunches come back not eaten ... after you scrambled to put some nutritious foods in their lunches?! Here is one to try ... Butternut squash Mac & Cheese 1lb macaroni 1 tsp olive oil 1 medium onion 2 medium red bell peppers , chopped 3 cups cubed butternut squash 1 3/4 cups low sodium chicken broth 1 cup low fat milk 2 tbsp low fat plain Greek yogurt 1 cup shredded gruyere or Swiss 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese Sea salt & black pepper Non stick cooking spray 1. Preheat oven to 375F 2. Cook macaroni according to package. 3. Heat oil over med-high heat, add onion & bell peppers for 4-6 minutes or until onion is translucent. 4. Combine squash, broth and milk in med saucepan. Bring to boil, reduce and simmer for 22-25 minutes, or until squash is tender. Then blend squash until smooth. 5. Combine squash mixture, macaroni, onion mixture, yogurt & cheeses till mixed. 6. Season with salt and pepper. 7. Place in 13x9 inch baking dish that has been coated with spray. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until sauce is bubbling.

Back to School Recipes! If you are like me you are excited about the kids going back - back to routines - back to seeing friends - getting Mama time back! BUT ...... Detest trying to find something healthy for the kids to eat! I have found these two good one for you to try out! Carrot cookies! (Like who doesn’t like carrot cake , this is the next best thing) 3/4 cup shredded carrots 1 egg 1/2 cup pure maple syrup 1 cup of oats 1 1/2 tsp baking sod’s 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1 tsp of vanilla 3/4 cup almond flour or flour of choice 2 tbsp of coconut oil 2 tbsp of butter Cool for 12-15 minutes Blended Pancakes ... a great addition to lunches instead of sandwiches. 4 eggs 1/2 cup of oats 1 cup of cottage cheese 1/2 tsp of cinnamon 1/2 tsp of vanilla Blend all ingredients into a batter, then make your pancakes. Do you ever wonder what makes you - you?! Or how you got to be you? I know for myself I am quite different from my family in terms I am very self driven. I have this inner fire that drives me ... some days my fire dies out a bit And it’s ironic because my mother, who not driven, really encouraged me at a young age to be me! ... Back story ... I was born with an hearing loss. And at the time the establishment highly suggested that I go to a school for the deaf. BUT I wasn’t deaf just hard of hearing. My Mum didn’t think me any different from the kids that were going to public school. I was just as capable and able to be there. That sense that I am just as able, just as capable as those other kids - no matter that I had this this disability (which I don’t consider myself disable) has transcended into my psyche. I AM ABLE, I CAN DO ANYTHING, no matter that it may be a challenge. Trust me there were those that question my Mum’s decision to have me in the public school system (remember it’s 1980 and people weren’t that accepting to those who were deemed different ). Have you wondered if there wasn’t that one person who said a certain thing to you or stood up for you or had your back that you would be a different person today? Who has your back? Do you need someone to have your back? Do you need some one who believes in you? Just know ... I have your back I believe you are capable of anything You are enough Keep pouring! I thought I would take the time to introduce myself! I am a professional stay at home Mama ... going on 12 years now. My family and I are flexatarians... meaning we eat about 90% plant based and the 10% is meat products. We have found it to be a great balance for us. My husband and I were raised on a meat and potatoes diet so we had research for plant based recipes. I love my hamburgers (homemade obviously ). Transformation Tuesday If you have gotten to know me I have always been into health and fitness BUT ... ... And it’s a big but ... I haven’t always stayed on the straight and narrow. I like to have my toddy’s in the evenings ... especially with a good book . I tend to miss snack(s) during the day since I am so focus on getting yard work or something other done. Since starting my business I have had to really up my game in terms of staying accountable not only to my crew but also to myself! Covid has really hit home for me as to what I really want. I want to be a leader for my crew! I want to feel confident, toned and strong with my body. I am also ok that my body isn’t perfect! So ... Myself and my crew started up the STRONGER group and ... Honed in our nutrition Have done 21 workouts in essentially 21 days ... thus far! We have cheered each other on! The best part ... we have all seen results of our efforts ... big and small! Overcoming Fear ... I started my own business two years ago, it’s has been quite a ride thus far! And I am only just starting. It has been, exciting, depressing at times, thrilling, lonely and sometimes down right scary - scary that I may fail at this business. Have you ever been fearful of trying something new ? Thinking this isn’t going to work.... Our fear gets in the way of so many things - opportunities! An opportunity to try new things An opportunity to excel in something you never knew you had in you. An opportunity to find your passion and to set yourself free of those weighted obligations. In order to overcome fear here a few tips (that I have learned): Recognize your own self- sabotage. Without realizing it, we become our own worst enemy. We downplay the foreseen opportunity, we make excuses. That inside voice may create a negative tone regarding this opportunity. Sometimes fear comes from a lack of knowledge - not knowing what is to come. So find out as much as you can and if you don’t have all the answers that’s ok to! It will come along the journey. Find a community who gets it! Sometimes just knowing that you aren’t totally alone makes this nerve wreaking opportunity that more manageable. Having someone alongside, even though they are running their gig, can boost your moral. So are you ready to take the plunge?! Ready to take on your fear? Ready to reach upwards for that opportunity?! Smoothie Time! I have smoothies pretty much every day. It is a great way to get my fruit and veg in. And it’s super quick ... which is great for me since I gotta get shit done! Recipe:... 1/2 cup of frozen fruit (I like the mixed berries with cherries ... packs a good punch of antioxidants). a scoop of power food, nutrient rich protein powder ... I only use the best! tbsp of cocoa powder ... who doesn’t like chocolate ?! a wee bit of cayenne ... just to help the digestive tract working and boost your metabolism ... score! What I learned ... From my journey competing. I have competed in 5 shows. Each were uniquely different. What I did learn was: ... The journey was far more fulfilling than the actual destination (show). That in order to get in top form, I needed to EAT more! That even the seasoned competitor has insecurities. Yep those gals you see grace the stage have their own hang ups! That the body and the mind are capable of so much ~ it’s just the matter of tapping into that. You need to find a support group for your journey ... no one needs to go alone. So if it’s not your partner or family ~ find that support !!! Not everyone will GET why you are doing this AND that’s ok ! If it were easy ... everyone would be doing it! I found myself appreciate that being at top form is not for me ... being healthy and able to enjoy all aspects of life is for me. Success is a journey, not a destination. Chocolate Energy Balls I am always on the go and need a quick something to keep me going. I even like to have these before my workout in the morning Plus these are kid approved I grabbed this recipe from @myfoodandhappiness. I would like to take full credit but can’t ... Chocolate Energy Balls Ingredients * 1 1/2 cup cashews (or other nuts) * 1 cup pitted medjool dates * 1 tbsp coconut oil * 1 tbsp cacao powder * 1 tbsp protein powder (use a bit more than the 1 tbsp * 1 tbsp chia seeds (optional but highly recommended) Instructions * Put all of the ingredients in a food processor (nuts first) and blend until you get a smooth mixture. * Roll into little balls and store in the fridge. I lost my mojo ... My fitness mojo that is ... Back story: since the age of 12 I have always been into fitness. I wanted to emulate the women that were on the Oxygen magazine. They were my role models ~ strong, muscular, and graceful women. They were what I considered beautiful ... and I still do to this day. ... So what do I do ... get myself a gym membership at the age of 16 (cause I couldn’t get it any earlier! ). And started working my butt off - no pun intended! I entered my first competition at 21 years old. Didn’t place but I didn’t care. I was doing what I loved . Fast forward a few years ... I have just had my 4th child ... and I am done . Like so done that I have anxiety attacks in my bathroom, I felt angry all the time, I was in a constant fog, AND I had no desire to workout Which for many people they would say, so what?! You don’t want to workout -Big deal! But it was a BIG deal The thing was ~ I identified so much with working out and advocating for a healthy lifestyle, I felt lost without my identity. So what helped ... Sought counselling to help cope with my anger, deal with kids, figure out what I truly valued. It’s still a work in progress @mindybilotta Kept moving my body even though my head wasn’t into it. Just knowing I was doing something that was part of me but I wasn’t 100% into, kept me going. I Found a community of people who were into fitness like myself and could inspire me and boost my moral ... even challenge me ... I am a sucker for challenges ... bring it! @heathnicholl I became an owner of my own company, ‘giving women the tools to be STRONGER’. I can’t lead if I haven’t done the work myself or at least attempt it My clients/partners inspire me to push further @regiersarah @kathrinrebecca @jessyelr @aimeebwinters @ireneharlond What would YOU need to do in order find your mojo?! I realize it seems strange to be thankful for a pandemic. But here I am saying Thanks to for letting me have time/space to figure out what I need to do with my life. Thank you COVID for giving me the opportunity to set my boundaries of what I wish in my life and that of my family’s. ... Thank you for allowing me to see what IS TRULY important ... family, the space around me and good friends. Thanks for giving myself and my family unforeseen opportunities.
