Time for an announced ELD deferral is now Regular readers of this column will be fully aware of the PMTC’s concerns on ELD timelines & our concerns over Transport Canada’s refusal at this point to meaningfully address these concerns as the compliance deadline continues to approach at a rapid pace. The PMTC is not a lone voice in the woods here, as at least 5 other Canadian Transportation Industry associations have also raised similar concerns with TC, as well as our US counterparts, the National Private Truck Council. You may be asking, why write about this again? https://thetruckingnetwork.ca/time-for-an-announced-eld-de/

The more things change, the more they stay the same President Grover Cleveland created the Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC) in 1887 to prohibit rate discrimination for customers of the railroad. In 1906 the ICC was authorized to set maximum railroad rates and to oversee bridges, terminals, ferries and oil pipelines. In 1935, the ICC’s authority extended to regulate motor carriers, including trucking and bus lines.... As the ICC became more powerful, its regulations encompassed all interstate transportation until it was abolished by Congress in 1995. At that time, it was replaced by the US Surface Transportation Board, which held regulatory oversight for bus and trucks, pipelines, water carriers and railroads. Today, the Surface Transportation Board primary attends to the rail industry, while the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, established in 2000, oversees interstate trucks and busses. https://thetruckingnetwork.ca/the-more-things-change-the-m/

Canada’s Defining Moment: Our Proud WW 2 History On November 11, Remembrance Day, we in Canada pause solemnly to reflect upon the many who fought for the rights and freedoms, and privileges we often take for granted. Why is it so important to remember those we never knew? Sadly many Canadians are unaware of Canada’s brave wartime history and those who valiantly gave for us so that we can live in peace in such a magnificent country.... In the chaos of COVID, the 75th anniversary of the end of WW II quietly slipped us by on September 2. Many of us have no connection to our past history or have any inclination as to why this past should be so important to all of us now. Ironically we are all now trapped in a different kind of war against COVID. We have been made aware of how fragile life is and how precious are our loved ones. Imagine the many who in WW II left their homes to unknown places so far away, never knowing if they would ever see their homes and loved ones again. Sadly many never did. They are our Canadian heroes, the ones who would never know us. These unknowns who gave the ultimate for us. They have earned all of our honour and respect. https://thetruckingnetwork.ca/canadas-defining-moment-our-/
