When we couldn’t meet in-person during #COVID19, our EarlyON staff mobilized quickly to engage and support our communities and families virtually through daily group activities include workshops, live circle time, guest speakers, and story time among other activities. We are thankful to them for being #TheHeartOfOurCommunity. The good news is that our EarlyON staff are all set to engage families through a host of new programming in the new year. Stay tuned for more details. There is power in community, and in giving, and this heartwarming story is proof of that. Sonia, a well-wisher of The 519, wanted to bring joy to some of our community members. With the help of our EarlyON staff who identified four families in need, Sonia got her workplace Manulife to join in the initiative. She didn’t just buy gifts for the little ones; she also bought gift cards for the adults in the families. Each gift was wrapped with love and care, and dropped off at The... 519 for the families to enjoy. Thanks so much for your care and support, Sonia, and for bringing smiles to our families during the holidays. Thanks for being #TheHeartOfOurCommunity. If you too wish to support our communities, consider donating at The519.org/donate, or text THE519 to 80100. You can also get in touch at Giving@The519 if you wish to raise funds for us or donate in-kind. #SupportThe519 #SupportLGBTQ2SCommunities See more

From a horrible tragedy grew the Meal Trans program, a safe harbour for Toronto’s trans and trans sex workers. Offered to lower-income, street-active, homeless, and sex-working trans, non-binary, two-spirit, and questioning people, the program continues to provide a safe space for folks to access nutritious meals and important resources and referrals. Learn more about the history of this program. Watch: http://www.queerstory.ca/project/meal-trans/ Meal Trans currently runs at The 519 [519 Church St.] Mondays, 4-6pm (except statutory holidays). #TransDayOfRemembrance #519TDoR #TransSupport #MealProgram

Today, November 20, is #TransDayOfRemembrance. Today, we remember all of those who were taken too early, be it due to violence, depression, overdose, or COVID-19. The importance of this day, especially this year, feels immeasurable. At a time where our collective ability to mourn has been disrupted, we seek different and brave new ways to love and care for each other. In this #throwback, more relevant than ever even today, our community members share what #TDoR means to them.
