Whether you are a speaker of long standing or one that is contemplating your very first engagement, check out this page of Dos and Don'ts from Imogene Lim, PhD, Professor of Anthropology, Vancouver Island University. Some of her tips made me laugh out loud, like: When you hear the bell, CONCLUDE, don't start speaking faster.

Listened this morning. My first thought on seeing the length was "there is NO WAY I have time to listen to an hour long podcast." And then it sucked me in. Within a couple of minutes, Brené's voice had me hooked. Like she was in the room and we were chatting, except she was doing the talking. Like your wiseass GF. ... Brené has a way of explaining insights and concepts like no other. THE MESSY MIDDLE. I'll be using this idea probably for the rest of my life. Want change? GREAT! There will be a beginning, middle, and end. The beginning will be shiny and full of hope. The middle will suck. Stay the course. Get to the end. It's such a metaphor for everything: life. Work. Everything hard. Thank you, Brené Brown. Again and always.
