Today I want to share an awesome quote from Zig Ziglar, a well know sales master and coach. The path to happiness is the practice of gratitude. This is something I have discovered this year. One of the hardest I’ve experienced from a business and professional standpoint. It’s easy to fall into the victim mentality of Why me? Instead, I’ve learned to be grateful for the support I have received and the people who left my life, I’m glad they are no longer taking my energy ... I’m making more money, having more fun and I feel more alive then ever all because I’ve learned to be grateful for the support (and referrals ) I receive from the awesome people in my corner. What I’m reading today: Designing your Life by Bill Burnett & Dave Evans Before I get into this AWESOME book for anyone looking to build (or re-build) their lives around their passion and core values. I want to give a shout out and testimonial to the man who introduced it to me. Owner/head coach of Dave Henry of Crossfit London! It's an awesome organization that helped me overcome serious health issues last year. Dave is an experienced coach and trainer and also a business e...nthusiast who introduced me to this (and other) great books. If you are looking for a personal trainer with heart and brains, I highly recommend him and the Crossfit London team! http://www.crossfitlondon.ca/wp/ Now onto the book the authors of this book take the design theory employed by Google’s engineers to take people through a process of self-deduction to design and evolve their own life through an iterative process. One key takeaway is developing a dashboard for your life. They recommend breaking your life into some key metrics (Love, play, work, health) and using it as a temperature check. I really liked this and relate to it. In my mind noise and commotion is smoke and mirrors which usually destroys capital and human potential while growth is quiet, focused, and rejuvenating. One of my personal core values is Fractal Growth, which is healthy organic growth. The opposite being cancerous growth that consumes without any concern for the environment or society. The way I put this principal into action is by; 1) Ensuring I seek out mentorship relationships to lea...rn and share ideas organically 2) Growing in a way that is sustainable long term 3) Ensuring the growth benefits the people I serve 4) Being authentic and living the example. I had a morning ritual last year, sometimes after dropping my kid off at school I head downtown to have a breakfast, do some work and go for a nice walk in the park. Sadly, today I was greeted with locked doors. One of my childhood favs is no more. Another victim of COVID-19. I hope the owners and staff are able to find a better future and are not saddled with personal debts.... I'll miss the Plantation/Symposium. Now where will I get my DT coffee? starbucks?? blah!!
