Fat (a.k.a. Adipose Tissue) is a Metabolically Active Organ Visceral fat behaves differently than subcutaneous fat (the fat you can pinch) Visceral fat is located around your internal organs (a.k.a. your viscera). It plays a role in regulating how your body processes and stores nutrients. Excessive amounts of visceral fat create an environment of insulin-resistance and systemic inflammation.... An effective inflammatory response is a very important part of a healthy body. Chemical mediators modify the size and shape of your blood vessels to bring nutrients and blood cells where they are needed. However, if this response shifts from acute to chronic. It does more harm than good. Chronic Inflammation compromises the integrity of the vessels in your cardiovascular system. People are familiar with the catastrophic forms of cardiovascular disease such as heart attack or stroke, but there are also more subtle indicators of dysfunctional circulation in the body. Nerve pain, joint degeneration, or impaired muscle tissue healing can all be signs of cardiovascular dysfunction. Fat-loss isnt simply about aesthetics, it can reduce pain and rejuvenate the healing systems in your body. Listen to your body before it has to shout. ______________________________________________________ FUEL For Optimal Recovery Check out our 2 week Anti-inflammatory diet plan at www.theathletesgrid.com #eathealthy #TAGfuel #nutrition #smoothierecipes #TAGfuels #guthealth #happygut #guthealthy #digestivehealth #antiinflammatorydiet #letfoodbethymedicine #functionalnutrition #nutritionisapproved #integrativenutrition See more

Could your hips be the source of your Neck Pain? - Your body does not exist in isolated parts, each part pulls and compresses in accordance to the stresses placed on it. ... If your hip flexors are shortened, or tight, or neurologically guarded (choose the language you prefer!) it can translate to additional forces driven up to the neck. This is why we examine all of your movements, not just the area that hurts. Finding out what hurts is easy, figuring out WHY it hurts takes skill. - In case you missed it, our neck self assessment workshop replay is available on the TAG website!______________________________________________________ HEAL the source of your pain Stay tuned for more movement workshops! #physicaltherapy #TAGheal #chiropractor #massagetherapy

GO-TO SMOOTHIE TAG Fueling Expert and Holistic Nutritionist @megandehod offering up a quick and easy smoothie recipe. Ingredients:... 1 cup kale (loosely packed) 1/2 cup berries 1 tbsp chia seeds 2 tbsp collagen powder 1 cup of water Optional add ins: Avocado, coconut milk, flax seed, or protein powder. This is our go to smoothie because it does not spike your blood sugar!!! Smoothies are a fantastic way to consume more fruit and veggies but we must understand, fruits are not all the same. Berries, have lots of fiber to slow down the absorption of the sugar. Where as fruits like grapes dont have as much fiber which means a faster blood sugar spike. To offset this they should be eaten in smaller amounts and paired with a good source of fiber like flax seed or chia to slow down the sugar absorption. Whats in your go-to smoothie?! ___________________________________ FUEL For Optimal Recovery Stay tuned for some exciting Nutrition and Metabolic Tips and Tricks! #eathealthy #TAGfuel #nutrition #smoothierecipes

STAYING HEALTHY DURING SOCIAL DISTANCING Sharing some tips from we got from Dr Jennifer Tanner (@drjennifertannernd) on todays IG LIVE! ROOT VEGGIES: have an extended shelf life in comparison to other vegetables! Great examples of ones to stock up on are onions (high in vitamin C, fibre, and antioxidants), sweet potatoes & carrots (high in vitamin A which has been shown to shorten the severity of respiratory infections), beets, garlic, ginger, etc! All great options.... PURPLE CABBAGE: can improve your immune defences by stimulating the activity of white blood cells. Shred a few strips & add em to salads , coleslaw, or stir fries! Plus side - your local grocery store is sure to have these in stock (fingers crossed). BLUEBERRIES: buy em frozen & in bulk if you can! Theyre rich in Vitamins C, A, potassium, dietary fibre, and manganese. Theyre also rich in antioxidants called flavonoids that can help reduce damage to cells and boost your immune system. Add em to your breakfast and start the day off right ! PUMPKIN SEEDS: offer a source of plant-based protein, zinc, and magnesium. Zinc plays a central role in the development of neutrophils and natural killer cells ideal for immune functioning! Pick these up and a dd a couple of tablespoons to your salad/trail mix .
