Mary Stuart November 24, 26 and 28 Directed by Mallory Fisher with Ashley Hunt as Video Head, Lexi Mendoza as set and props designer, Costume design by Sophia Molnar and assistant directed by Phoebe Gill. ... Mary Stuart Mary Stuart is imprisoned in Englandthe official sentence is for the murder of her husband, but the real reason is because she has pushed her claim to the throne of England currently held by her cousin, Queen Elizabeth I. Even though Elizabeth ordered Marys imprisonment eighteen years ago, she hesitates over signing Marys death sentence. She realizes that even though Mary, a Catholic, is a threat to her Protestant throne, it may be even more dangerous to execute her, because of Marys many friends and allies in Scotland and France. Mary, of course, hopes for a reprieve. However, for one to rule, one must fall. Surrounded by factions jockeying for power, each queen contends with seduction, greed, and deception in a political power play with deadly stakes. A meeting between the two queens lays all ambitions bare, with the fate of bothand the future of the budding Empireon the line.

Alice in Wonderland November 23, 25 and 27 Directed by Herbie Barnes, with Ashley Hunt as Video Head, Lexi Mendoza as set and props designer and Costume design by Sophia Molnar. ... Alice in Wonderland was written 155 years ago, and children and adults still love the story today. Seven-year-old Alice is sleepy and bored one afternoon when she suddenly notices a quite well-dressed white rabbit with a pocket watch rush by. She follows the white rabbit down the rabbit hole and her adventures begin. When she drinks, she shrinks and when she eats cake she grows. And mushrooms really mess with her size. She goes to a mad tea party where she meets a hatter, a hare and a sleepy door mouse who riddle her silly. And then theres the Queen of Hearts, who has a thing about severing heads. Sounds like fun for everyone.

Wednesday, September 9th, 2020 We acknowledge that the land on which we gather is in traditional Mikmaw territory, and we acknowledge with respect the diverse histories and cultures of the Beothuk, Mikmaq, Innu, and Inuit of this province. ... On September 9th & 10th, 2020, the Visual Arts and Theatre Programs in the School of Fine Arts, Grenfell Campus, Memorial University, will be joining our colleagues in post-secondary institutions in a labour action called Scholar Strike for Black Lives in Canada to protest anti-Black, racist and colonial police brutality in the U.S., Canada and elsewhere. For these two days of collective action, we will pause our teaching and all administrative duties. As academics, educators, scholars, and artists, we are compelled to join this strike and thank you in advance for your understanding and support of our right to protest. This strike will disrupt the beginning of this unusual term; we feel that this disruption is important. We stand in solidarity with Black Lives Matter, are committed to eradicating systemic racism in our institution, and are outraged by the racist brutality we witness in our society. We invite you to join us by attending public lectures programmed by Scholar Strike Canada, by taking time to reflect, or by taking time to heal and rest. We are grateful to work, teach, and learn in the Visual Arts Program, and we are thankful for your support as we stand in solidarity with our colleagues across the country and join in the Scholar Strike for Black Lives in Canada. Learn more about Scholar Strike here, including a list of online public programming: https://scholarstrikecanada.ca/ https://scholarstrikecanada.ca/quick-program-overview/ Sincerely, Ingrid Mary Percy, Chair On behalf of the Visual Arts Program Jerry Etienne, Chair On behalf of the Theatre Program Grenfell Campus Memorial University

A Message from Theatre at Grenfell Faculty: No Place for Racism In line with MUN president Vianne Timmons recent statement on anti-racism, we stand united in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement to create a more just society for all Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC). We acknowledge that, as a part of deeply entrenched institutionalized and systemic racism, we have fallen short of and failed the BIPOC community. How We Are Going to do Better:... 1. We commit to diversity, anti-racism and anti-bias training for all our faculty, staff and students. 2. We commit to diversifying the plays in the courses of study of the department to ensure BIPOC artists are elevated and celebrated. We commit to reaching out to other academic units to this end. 3. We commit to working with MUNFA and Academic Affairs to find ways to broaden inclusion in the hiring of tenure-track faculty, term instructors, per-course instructors, guest artists and masterclass teachers. 4. We commit to working with the office of recruitment to more actively recruit prospective BIPOC students and to find ways to make Grenfell a safe, inclusive and creative environment for them. 5. We commit to a greater focus on BIPOC contributions to the arts in all courses. 6. We commit to decolonizing our curriculum through curriculum review and redesign. 7. We commit to partnering and consulting with BIPOC academic groups within and external to the Grenfell community in order to achieve these aims. 8. We commit to providing opportunities and space for our BIPOC faculty, staff, students and alumni to share thoughts, ideas and reflections about this movement, and how we can do better moving forward. 9. We commit to reporting to the community regularly on our progress and initiatives. These action points are a start. In the days, months and years to come we will be working with the School of Fine Arts, the Grenfell Campus administration and community, and other external partners to further expand and refine our commitment to this work and put it into practice. We also acknowledge that reflecting on the Black Lives Matter movement has contributed to recognition of shortcomings related to other marginalized groups. We recognize that thoughts, ideas and reflections related to all matters of intolerance or harassment must be heard and acted upon.
