Another big step in the devolution of the Society today: The account at Vancity Credit Union is now closed. A final $494.28 was donated to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. The woman who processed it had seen TfL shows, which was a nice circular touch. The letter to voluntarily revoke the Charity Status is in the mail to the CRAbringing up a memory of fighting to GET the charity status and being told over the phone if they gave it to us, because of the 'political nature' of the work (projects about affordable housing and militarism) they’d ‘have to give charity status to the Nazi Party’.(?!?)....Onward.

I am very pleased to announce that "Teatro para la Vida" the Spanish translation of my book (Theatre for Living: the art and science of community-based dialogue) with forewords by Fritjof Capra and Hector Aristizabal is now finally available globally in PAPERBACK as well as an e-book. While I understand and share the problem with Amazon, it was the only way to make it affordably available through the publisher on Amazon .es, .uk, .com, .ca, .mx and others while keeping the price under $25US / 21 Euros / $553. MXN. Thanks to Juanjo Rubio for translation and ongoing support!

People have been asking me to post this Webinar I did for the Tamarack Institute last week, so here it is. I'm not crazy about how it is formatted, but...maybe you'll find it interesting or valuable: https://www.tamarackcommunity.ca//webinar-theatre-for-chan

Seeing other companies' offerings...if you enjoy your theatre overtly political ALL of Theatre for Living's (Headlines Theatre) plays going all the way back to 1981 are available for free viewing online. Scroll past the recent interviews and you'll start to see them. On the housing crisis in Buy Buy Vancouver and Right to Fight 1981 and 1982 (where you can see me, Nettie Wild and Colin Thomas as 'children'!)...and then 'after homelessness' created and performed by the homeless population and won 'outstanding production of the year' at the Jessies, 'maladjusted' a wonderful project on mental health, a beautiful Theatre/Dance production on species and habitat protection (Mamu) and many, many more productions. http://www.theatreforliving.com/video_and_sound.htm

COVID - 19 Update: THE DATES OF THE 22nd ANNUAL TRAININGS IN VANCOUVER HAVE CHANGED. Although it is impossible to tell for certain, all indicators are pointing to the July dates for the TfL Trainings won’t work. Canada is later in the escalation than many countries in the world (although we seem to be doing relatively well here in BC). However, will we be able to gather in rooms in July? Will the Canadian border be open by then? Will people be ‘comfortable’ in a theatre works...hop? Keeping a sense of optimism, and having polled the people already registered, I have managed to secure hall dates for August, knowing that this too may not be possible in the end. However, for now the new dates are: Level ONE: Saturday, August 8 to Thursday, August 13, 2020. 9AM 5:30 PM daily Level TWO: Sunday, August 16 to Friday, August 21, 2020. 9AM 5:30PM daily (Photo is the 2019 Level 2 group shot) August 8 13: Level 1 open to anyone interested in TfL techniques $600CDN+5% GST* 6 days, 8 hours/day. 30 participants maximum. This initial level of training will delve into the origins and philosophies behind Theatre for Living and explore Group Building, Image Theatre, and Rainbow of Desire. We will also prepare short plays for a non-public Forum Theatre event. August 16 21: Level 2 open only to people who have taken a Level 1 $600CDN+5% GST* 6 days, 8 hours/day. 30 participants maximum. Level 2 focuses primarily on Forum Theatre and Joking (facilitating). We make plays by the end of Day 2. Participants will facilitate games, explore Cops in the Head, image animations and Joke Forum Theatre and Cops in the Head with feedback. I will also introduce the structure of Your Wildest Dream a community visioning tool. * limited subsidies are available for people in need. Also a VERY limited number of homestays. (Homestays can only be organized closer to the workshop dates.) The Level 1 Theatre for Living Training workshop was one of the most inspiring experiences in my life so far. Jeremias Kraus Thanks for the TfL Level 1 training. I just got home and have already used some of the activities in a digital storytelling workshop. Irene Jansen Those two TfL training weeks (Levels 1 and 2) hold a special place in my heart. Since then I have been more courageous when working with groups, proposing more imaginative and expressive projects. And I have become more aware and considerate of the "collective conscious in the room." Thank you for creating and maintaining such a wonderful, living art form and community.
