Gary Galley, left, Welsford, and his half-brother, Blair Misner, Coldbrook; had a Remembrance Day mission, arriving at the Berwick cenotaph well before invited dignitaries and a far smaller crowd than in years past. Their grandmother, Alice Galley, was presented a Silver Cross upon the loss of her son, Harold, killed in action in Antwerp in the Second World War. Galley says his father told him he remembers the day the Baptist minister from the Aldershot church, the Army’s des...ignated notifier in the community, visited their home. Harold was one of three brothers serving and, when the minister came, my grandmother had no idea which one he was coming to tell her about, he says. This cross has been passed through the family and, 15 years ago, the aunts and uncles gave it to me. Galley was a paramedic, and is a volunteer firefighter and a Mason with the Masonic Hall-Berwick. He thinks about this cross all the time, keeping it safe at home and ensuring it is either at the Kentville, Nova Scotia or Town of Berwick cenotaph on November 11. I’m looking now at where I pass it in years to come, among all the family’s cousins and nieces and nephews. Today, this is where it is going to be at 11 a.m. #weremember See more

Hey 14 Wing and Kingston/Greenwood Community, I wanted to provide a short update regarding some COVID related concerns over the past few days. There was a possi...ble COVID exposure to a 14 Wing member identified yesterday. However, every step was followed by the individual as directed by Nova Scotia’s health regulations and the member has now tested negative. Here at the Wing, we took rapid measures to keep all of our members safe. We had the individual isolate, as directed by 811, limited the traffic into and out of the member’s workplace to limit any possible exposure, and we initiated contact tracing to determine who may have been exposed if the member were to have tested positive. All in all, the fact that the member followed the provincial rules and the Wing’s directives and that the unit in question took decisive action in line with our established COVID procedures led to the best outcome where the members of our Wing and community are safe. On another note, our members have come back from Op NEON in Japan. To ensure the protection of the Wing and community we are employing a layered risk mitigation strategy to keep everyone safe. This strategy is mirroring the similar procedures we used earlier this fall, and which were successful in managing the risks related to international travel. This means that some of them will be isolating on the Wing. They will have some restricted areas outdoors where they are allowed to go to get some fresh air but other than that, they will be isolating in the barracks. Because of the success of the past, we do not anticipate any additional risk here at the Wing. While I can understand that some folks may be feeling distressed by potential local cases of COVID and rumours may abound, I ask that everyone do their part to tamp down misinformation. Nova Scotia is still one of the safest places in the country to be, the Valley is even safer yet, and 14 Wing is taking all necessary steps to keep you safe and healthy. Stay safe, stay healthy and importantly.... Stay calm, and carry on. 14 Wing Greenwood command and personnel are prepared to mark Remembrance Day 2020 tomorrow, November 11:

The Aurora News 12.09.2020

Grade 10 students from Middleton Regional High School were the only Nova Scotians to take part in this year’s national No Stone Left Alone Memorial Foundation project, visiting Old Holy Trinity Cemetery in Middleton to remember the lives of Commonwealth airmen killed during Second World War training at CFB Greenwood. The students walked from MRHS to the cemetery November 5, a beautiful fall afternoon, and recited the names of the servicemen and their home country, before plac...ing a poppy atop each headstone. A piper and bugler from the 14 Wing Greenwood bands, 14 Wing chaplain Captain Maya Bevan and Old Holy Trinity Reverend Paul Jennings added music, words of remembrance and prayers to complete the service, with a handful of spectators standing off to the edges. No Stone Left Alone marks its 10th anniversary in 2020, with over 65,000 poppies placed by 12,300 students at gravesites in 120 cemeteries across Canada during that time. The Middleton event is a second occurrence, thanks to the efforts of volunteer John Maceachern beginning in 2019. Maceachern opened the service thanking students for their support of No Stone Left Alone. He shared a letter written to them from program founder and president, Maureen Bianchini Purvis. Our world is constantly changing, and we are all looking for the comfort of peace, she wrote. Today, those of you who are here to honour our veterans, I want you to know that, with this small act of respect and honour, you truly are making a difference. You are setting an example for our youth that, no matter what happens in our daily lives, we must and we will remember them. Maceachern added: This class you should be proud of yourselves. You are the only class representing Nova Scotia in this national movement in 2020. Congratulations. Due to COVID-19, spectators were few, participants wore masks and everyone spaced apart from each other in the cemetery. While Bianchini Purvis had written, We all are very aware today of the difference a year can make from 2019 services, Maceachern wished everyone well in the days and months of life ahead in a pandemic. Go home. Be safe See more
