Monday February 8th Afternoon Stick Curling Cancelled

Berwick Curling Club 05.02.2021

Hi Folks: Today's storm came more or less as advertised, and the forecast for later on today is a bit of a mixed bag. So let's try something different...... Tonight's curling will be strictly drop-in curling, with one draw, starting at 7:30 (to split between the normal early and late start times). All of the regularly scheduled social league games will be cancelled. If you are coming, try to arrive by 7:15 pm...we'll make up teams based on who is there and go out and play. I will be there at 7 to open up. This will hopefully allow everyone to make the decision on venturing out that is right for their personal circumstances. Cheers, Mike

Hi Everyone: This afternoon, the Province announced that they are lifting the restrictions on the playing of games in sports, effective this Monday, January 25. This means that curling can, and will, resume at the Club starting next week. Schedules for the evening leagues have been posted to the website, so if you normally play in these, or the Doubles league, please check the website for your schedule.... The ice will be off limits this weekend to allow the Ice Crew to put a fresh flood on the ice. After 6 weeks of limited use, it's a little crusty... All of the previous health and cleaning protocols that we had been following prior to Christmas will remain in effect as we start back up. This is good news...see you on the ice. Cheers, Mike

Message from our Club President Hi Folks: This afternoon, the Province provided an update on the restrictions that have been in place that impact curling, and other sports. They have announced that the current restrictions will stay in place for at least 2 more weeks, so through until at least January 25 (they were set to expire on January 11). This means that practices can happen, but games can not.... Your Board met last night and discussed what might happen if the restrictions were continued. At this point, we are prepared to continue to take a wait-and-see approach. This means the ice will be kept in, and we will review again in two weeks, or earlier, when the Province provides another update. For those that signed up for the second session of curling, the schedules have been prepared, and will be posted on the website this weekend. Please note, however, that the games scheduled for the weeks of January 11 and 18 will not be taking place. We will provide a further update on scheduling when we get more information. If there are any questions that you have, please don't hesitate to reach out. I will continue to provide information as it becomes available. Cheers, Mike

Hi Folks: After discussion with the Board of Directors, this is to advise that we are shutting down the Curling Club early for the holidays. The shutdown is effective immediately. The Board is making this decision voluntarily in light of the recent positive COVID cases in our area. We have not been directed by Public Health to do this. This decision was not taken lightly.... Our plan is still to resume curling on Sunday, January 3, 2021, provided that conditions have improved. Until then, there will be no activities at the Club. The Club will be fully cleaned in the meantime, so that it will be ready to go after the holidays. As a reminder, registration is open on the website for the next evening curling sessions. You can register until December 28th. Also, we have almost sold all of the Club 200 tickets, and I anticipate we will be able to make the initial draws next week. Winners will be notified, and payments will be done electronically. Please let me take this opportunity to wish you and yours the best over the coming Holiday season. Please stay safe, and (fingers crossed) we will see you early in 2021! Cheers, Mike

Hi Folks: I want to thank those of you who have reached out over the past day and expressed your thoughts and concerns. We are a Members Club, everyone has a say in what happens, and we try to do the best we can to strike a balance between the various needs of our group. Things are still evolving locally, with much unknown at this point, and that has created a situation where many people are having to make decisions based on their personal circumstances. So I want to let you ...know of the following changes, which are hopefully going to make some of that decision making easier: 1) Tonight's curling (mixed social league) will be changed to a drop-in format. This is being done to alleviate the need for people to try and find spares, while still providing an opportunity for those who wish to get a game in to do so. We will run 1 draw tonight, starting at 7 pm. Teams will be drawn based on who shows up. The first 32 curlers who show up will be able to play, although curlers who were already registered to play on Thursday night will be given priority until 6:45 pm. After that, it will be first come, first served. The Club will be open at 6:30 pm. 2) Friday night curling is cancelled until after the Holiday Break. This is effective immediately. Our Friday Night Coordinators are not available either of the next two weeks. 3) Your Board of Directors is now considering whether we should shut down one-week early for the holiday break. Next week was scheduled to be the last week of curling. A decision on this will be made no later than this Saturday, and you will be advised accordingly. This is not a decision that I would make alone...this is a group decision that the Board will make. Our plan would still be to re-open on schedule after the holiday break, during the week of January 3, provided current conditions warrant. Please pass this along if you know folks who will be impacted by the changes who may not pay close attention to their e-mail. Cheers, Mike

Wednesday Night Curlers: Due to other activities taking place at the KMCC, curling for tonight is being cancelled. This action is being taken out of an abundance of caution. Curling activities scheduled for Thursday will proceed as normal.

Berwick Curling Club 03.11.2020

The KMCC is closed today Sunday, December 6th so all curling scheduled for today is cancelled.

The sign-up for the second Tuesday and Thursday night schedules is now live on the website. You will need to log-in to sign up. Registration will be open until December 28 to allow time for teams and schedules to be created. Curling will begin the week of January 4, 2021. COVID Update: As you should be aware, the Province has put in many additional restrictions to try and combat the growing number of COVID cases in the Province. At this time, these restrictions do not impact ...our Club, however, we need everyone to be extra vigilant about paying attention to changing public health protocols. We do not want to be the cause of an outbreak in our area. PLEASE monitor Public Health guidance around non-essential travel, and pay particular attention to the list of possible public exposures that is updated daily...if you have reason to believe that you may have been exposed to COVID because you have been in a place that an exposure notice has been given for, we would ask that you please not come to curling until that exposure notice has been lifted. PLEASE NOTE: November 29th was the first day that exposure notices were issued for locations outside of Halifax Regional Municipality... Thanks to everyone for your understanding on this. To clarify...we have no reason to believe that we have had any issues related to COVID. Our goal is to keep it that way so that we can continue to curl. Cheers, Mike
