It has been quite awhile since posting anything on Klassen Fine Woodworking and Facebook keeps telling me I should post something! It has always been a slightly humorous thing to me that in woodworking, to create furniture with round elements, we start from a tree that is round, mill it into boards, glue them together into a square, and then shape it back into round. Below are photos of this process from a round, split pedestal extendable dining table I am presently working on. Stay tuned for photos of the finished piece. The finished cherry table will be a 5 foot diameter circle that will extend to 9 feet when the two leaves are inserted.

Some woodworking detail shots of the new barn entrance as some people expressed interest in seeing that. The original barn had a large garage door that got damaged long before we bought the property. There was a temporary fix that turned to permanent as happens with old buildings. Extensive rot was discovered as I went to fix a sill and so it was time to do something about it. I had reclaimed a bunch of heritage windows from a job I did several years ago and so designed the entrance around the windows. Post and beam jamb unit consists of Hemlock from a local mill and the trim and other detailing is re-milled from an old church that my son Jonny and I dismantled several years ago. Recycling at its best! The windows above still need to be fitted properly, trimmed out and painted but at least the barn is closed in for the winter!

New Post and Beam barn entrance in progress. Centre will be carve double doors. Jamb is made from Hemlock and the windows are reclaimed from an old heritage house in Windsor Nova Scotia. The owners were clients of mine and they had replaced the whole house with thermal units and gave me all the windows.

Below are photos of a piece I did 1 year ago. January 2018. It was for a group furniture exhibition called Living Furniture at the Mary E. Black Gallery in Halifax NS. I was never happy with the original title so it now has a new title. Wing to Wing and Oar to Oar. Title is a line from a Robert Frost poem. You might enjoy the whole poem.... The Master Speed By Robert Frost No speed of wind or water rushing by But you have a speed far greater. You can climb Back up a stream of radiance to the sky, And back through history up the stream of time. And you were given this swiftness, not for haste Nor chiefly that you may go where you will. But in the rush of everything to waste, That you may have the power of standing still Off any still or moving thing you say. Two such as you with a master speed Cannot be parted nor be swept away From one another once you are agreed That life is only life forevermore Together wing to wing and oar to oar.

Check out the new look for Klassen Fine Woodworking. Just did a bit of an overhaul to the web site. My work is now grouped into different categories so that it is easier to find what you might be interested in. When you go into the different categories, make sure to check the bottom of the page where the text is. Some of them will say "click here to see more about this project". If you click this you can see a visual history of what all went into putting that piece together! go to www.klassenfinewoodworking.com to see the new changes
