LITTLE RED GETS A SECOND CHANCE Hit by a car and rescued by a quick thinking witness, this poor little fox was is rough shape when he arrived. Georgia flew int...o action when she saw his limp body on the side of the road. His mate was standing protectively over him but Georgia still rushed in and grabbed his tail to get him out of harms way. She quickly bundled him into her car and raced to SOH. Her fast action saved Little Red's life. With a dislocated elbow, fractured pelvis and broken tail, this beautiful red fox was barely conscious when he arrived. After treating his pain, our team went to work ... Little Red is recovering now and although he has a long rehab ahead, we expect he will be right and ready for Spring and will be returned to his mate!

During a daily swim for this loon, wildlife rehabilitation staff noticed he wasn’t diving or spending much time in the water. This was odd behaviour, since loons spend much of their lives on open water. Assistant Rehabilitation Manager Ashley checked on the loon and immediately noticed he was wet, which meant the waterproofing on his feathers was compromised. Rehabilitation staff couldn’t see or feel any substances on his feathers, but when they placed him in a special bath with gentle soap, the water turned dark whatever grease was on him and preventing his feathers from staying dry was coming off. Wounds on his foot and eye are currently being treated, and staff have high hopes for his recovery! You can help support the care of this loon and so many other patients being admitted every day!
