PETS ARE FAMILY AND A BIG COMMITMENT . . Did you ask Santa for a pet for Christmas? Did someone in your family? It certainly is a wonderful surpise to wake up on Christmas morning to the love of a new furry family member. ... Please remember, that the commitment stretches far beyond Christmas morning and that unfortunately, the new year tends to be a busy time for shelters. Too many animals are surrendered after Christmas, be it because of unknown allergies, lack of communication within the family or just not getting what you expected. A FRIENDLY REMINDER FOR YOUR PET THIS CHRISTMAS . . Just a little warning regarding the treats many stores are now starting to stock for dogs at Christmas.... The vast majority of these rawhide products and treats come from China. The chews are made from cattle or horse hides and their journey starts with the hides being soaked in a toxic sodium sulphide to remove the hair and fat. More chemicals are used in order to split the hide into layers which is then washed with hydrogen peroxide to give the white "pure" look and remove the rancid smell. Now comes the pretty festive colours and the glue to form cute shapes. On testing, these chews have shown traces of arsenic, mercury, chromium and formaldehyde. If that wasn't bad enough, they regularly cause intestinal blockages, poisoning from chemical residue and choking. The chews go slippery when wet and are near impossible to get hold of to save a choking dog. Leave them in the shop where they belong or if some well meaning person buys them for your dog put them safely away for later, then dispatch in the bin! The affection, affirmations & compliments we so easily give them are never taken for granted. They show us how much they appreciate our love. Phrases like "I love you" and "great job" can become habit in our relationships and lose potency over time. The trick is not only taking the time to say these things, but when on the receiving end, showing that y...ou value these affirmations. Great Job? = Thank you so much, I really appreciate your feedback. I love you? = That's exactly what I needed to hear right now, I love you too! It's a two way street! HAPPY HALLOWEEN! . . Just a friendly reminder....Halloween is loved by many however, it can be a stressful and dangerous experience for our pets.... From digestible hazards, high-traffic visitors and loud noises from fireworks, it is important that your pet is set up for success and made as comfortable as possible. Just like Canada and Independence day celebrations, many pets go missing this time of year. Be sure to secure doors/escape routes and have the appropriate identification on your pets at all times.
