HIGH VIZ One of the best compliments a designer can get is that is so obvious, why wasn’t it done before! And that was the most common response to data designer @susie_draws ambitious side projectredesigning the humble sales receipt. Why does the receipt need a redesign? Well...when was the last time you studied anything on your receipt other than the total at the bottom? What if that piece of paper we usually throw away could teach us something about our shopping habits? For example: how much of our budget is used on fruits and veg verses processed snacks? What do you think?could the receipt use a visual redesign? #dataanalytics #innovation #designideas #receipt

CALGARY GETS CREATIVE The new proposed stadium in Calgary (future home of the Flames) turns the traditional stadium on its head with a revolutionary inverted bowl design. Since Roman times all stadiums had a major design flawthe higher the seats, the worse the view. ROSSETTI, an architecture firm from Detroit, looks to invert that age-old problem with cantilevered balconies that lean into, instead of away, from the action. The nosebleed seats now become the premium seats a...nd move fans as much as 50 percent closer to the action. The new design also means the stadium can seat the same number of people in a much smaller footprint, which makes it less expensive to build and maintain. If Calgary gets the green light to build their new stadium it would be the first inverted bowl design in the world. SIGN ME UP A pleasant surprise when visiting Rogers Centre in Edmonton is the nearby Neon Sign Museum. The museum features a collection of working neon signs that have dotted various businesses throughout Edmonton’s past. One of the signs is for the Pantages Theatre that opened to a packed house of 1,600 people, on May 12, 1913. The theatre originally booked various vaudeville acts, but went through drastic change in 1921 as it kept up with the times and converted to a ‘motion picture house.’ The Museum is appropriately outdoors and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and no admission is required. #neon #signs #edmonton #museums

BRAND FLIP Who owns a brand? That’s the intriguing question posed by Marty Neumeier in his fascinating book Brand Flip: Why Customers Now Run Companies and How to Profit from It. According to Neumeier, today’s customers don’t buy brands; they join brands. They hate to be sold to, but they love to buy. Understanding what makes modern consumers think, feel and behave is an exciting topic and one the Neumeier brings to life with a real-world example. While Brand Flip is a short read, it isn’t short on ideas or practical examples. A must-read for entrepreneurs and anyone interested in telling their brand story. (Shout out to @slpetro for the inspiration to write a book review) #marketing #branding #bookreview #brandflip
