6 years ago, a little shop on the corner of my street was for sale; Carole who had been there for decades was ready to retire! At that time it was one of 2 Barbershop’s in Hintonburg, both were on the same block. As a hairstylist who’d been in the industry for 14 years at that point, I definitely saw the need to fill the gap in the neighbourhood for quality men’s grooming at a reasonable cost as the neighbourhood continued to evolve! So, I bought Caroles, gave it a faceli...ft and The Brooke Barber Shop was born! . . I was incredibly excited to continue the female-owned barber shop legacy and hire a female barber to build the brand I had imagined. I wanted to have an inclusive space where everyone felt welcome regardless of gender, age, sexual orientation and status. The barber shop was much needed and well received in the neighbourhood! . . As the years went by, the upward trend of barber shops continued to spike and now there are 8 barber shops along Wellington/Somerset... needless to say the barber shop gap in Wellington West and Hintonburg has been filled by some amazing and incredibly talented barbers! The last 2 years have been difficult: a cancer diagnosis and a global pandemic will really put things into perspective! . . So, with a heavy-but-full heart, it’s time to move on from this charming little barber shop on the corner and breathe new life into the neighbourhood with a ~super exciting passion project~ I’ve been working on! I was inspired by my battle with cancer last year and I want to provide much needed services to people not only in Hintonburg, but the whole of Ottawa!
