Photo curtesy of Anatis Bioprotection. Repost from @the.dankdaddy about Gaeolaelaps Gillespiei * * This mite is a relatively unknown soil dwelling mite that very closely resembles the Scimitus mites I wrote about earlier. The share the same size and shape, and roughly the same color as well. * ... These mites were discovered and popularized by fellow canadian, Dave Gillespie (thanks Dave!) * These mites eat 50% more gnat larvae than scimitus (7 larvae per day) and are quite aggressive and persistant if conditions are right. They have also been seen to eat shorefly larvae and thrip pupae. They will breed and persist until the outbreak is controlled, at which point they switch to being a detrivore, however they do not breed without gnat larvae around. Their lifecycle is around 18 days at 20C, laying eggs on the surface of the soil which incubate for around three days. * They require indoor temperatures and will go dormant if temps drop below 14C so keep these babies warm! * These are available in Canada from @thebugladywgb * * #IPM #predators #ladybugs #organic #gardening #planting #buglady #thebuglady #natural #pestcontrol #beneficialbugs #agriculture #indoorgardening #outdoorgardening #aphids #pests #entomology #hydroponics #canada #biologicalpestcontrol #cannabis See more
