Back to the basics! The western world has been living as Royalty for many decades. This lifestyle that we have chosen is both unhealthy and unsustainable. To clarify we simply need to examine how we manage our financial resources. Fifty years ago our parents spent money on basic needs ie: shelter/food/clothing and utilities and were net savers.... Our parents worked forty years,paid off their mortgages and car loans and paid cash for everything else. In short, they lived within their means and became financially independant. Today we pay our way with credit instead of cash. One only needs to look at the amount of debt in the western world to see the evidence of that. We put necessities like food,gas and utilities on credit cards but worse still, we put luxuries on credit as well. This would not be the crisis that it is, if we paid the balance on our cards every month. In fact we have chosen to live above our means now and pay later. This is an unsustainable path. We need to get back to the basics, pay down debt, save money and spend less. Our parents and grandparents had it figured out, the words- we can‘t afford it now leads to being able to afford it later.
