Did you know that figs being considered #vegan is actually debatable? Figs begin their lifecycle as an inverted enclosed flower, which means that common ways of pollination (bees, wing) aren’t possible. As a result, figs rely on a specific type of wasp to receive their pollen. A female wasp of this type will crawl into the fig (not being able to crawl back out) and pollinate the fig flower.... Her body is then absorbed and digested by an enzyme within the fig leaving no traces whatsoever of the wasp within the fruit. In order for a fig flower to come to fruition, a wasp inevitably must die, to provide it with pollen. Therefore, since a fig is the result of a wasps’ death, some suggest it as not being vegan. #fig #fruit #pollination #science #themoreyouknow
