It's official! We have re-opened for daycamp and boarding. With this being said we have set up a series of guidelines in order to keep you safe! We can't wait to see all our furry friends soon! Rye update! Rye is a rescue from Homes for Paws Dog Rescue and is being fostered by our trainer Amanda. Unfortunately, this little guy came in quite fearful and would guard everything in his sight. It took many months to earn his trust but he has come such a long way since he came into care. We have decided to start documenting some or his journey every Tuesday for #trainingtuesday, here is what our little Rye and Amanda have been up to this week! "Since Rye has a hard ti...me dealing with hands, I am always looking for an approach that helps him realize how great hands can be( and really convenient for holding bones for comfortable chewing). One step of Reasource Guarding training that can help with some dogs is to introduce the idea of "ours". Meet Kaya! Kaya is a 10 month old mixed breed and was adopted as a puppy from Freedom Dog Rescue . This girl LOVES to play and is very active. Time for another #trainingtuesday. Here's what Rye and Amanda have been up to this week! "I wanted to give Rye some power in the whole scary nail grooming process, so im teaching him how to file his own nails. Here in the first part of the process, I have a piece of cardboard with sandpaper taped to it. I have it at just a small angle so it isn't too steep, but to discourage just standing on it. I am looking to shape a kick- like motion against the paper to file his own nai...ls. He can choose at any time to stop and he is in charge of acquiring rewards by choosing to do the behavior. Next steps will include increasing the angle of the board, adding a verbal cue, and to only accept more and more determined, mindful kicks, instead of just touching with his feet as I'm marking here." #tbt to when Sunny came in for private training when he was a wee little puppy vs now! Crazy to think about how small he was when my rescue, Homes for Paws Dog Rescue , took him in. Here's what his parents have to say: "We have had Sunny for nearly 5 months now. At the beginning we had a HUGE struggle with house training, crate training and recall. Now, he knows basic commands; sit, lay down, leave it. He is able to sleep out of a crate through the night, and has had 0 accid...ents inside over the last month! He knows his name fully and comes 50% of the time when called. Amanda, the trainer, helped us to establish some really great ground work with him and create the training relationship we needed to do well with his smart little brain. He’s a smart dude and we continue to work on his recall everyday! He loves to push boundaries, and keeps us on our toes.
