The Caregivers' Club Film 26.12.2020

If you have a moment can you say a little prayer for ‘Donna’ who was our busy, entertaining and wonderful mom with Alzheimer’s in the Caregivers’ Club film and always kept her daughter Barb on her toes! Donna is in a nursing home now and has Covid although no symptoms yet.

A message from Christine Smith, one of our recent family dementia caregivers, who won 50 Hours of Respite Care: "This was the view from my recliner earlier this week as I caught the afternoon sun at Green’s Lake, located north of Buckhorn in the Kawarathas. Thanks to Cynthia Banks of the Caregivers Club for the Award, the terrific scheduling skills of Melanie DaSilva and the excellent care provided by PSWs Nesra, Alicia, Lenora and Jean, I was able to enjoy 28 of my winning ...hours. When I left the city, I knew my mate, John Clancy, was in good hands. In the coming weeks, I know I will welcome the remaining respite hours as my John experiences major decline from Alzheimer’s Disease. He will no doubt require increased care and attention and I will need the break more than ever. Thank you again to VHA and the Caregivers Club." PLEASE CONTINUE TO SUPPORT OUR EFFORT TO HELP AT-HOME FAMILY DEMENTIA CAREGIVERS. WE HAVEN'T HAD MANY DONATIONS RECENTLY AND IT IS SUCH A DIFFICULT TIME FOR THEM! It is with the greatest pleasure I can announce the awarding of 50 hours of respite care to another beautiful, family caregiver. When you call someone and tell them this kind of news and there are tears of gratitude on the other end, you know you are providing something to a person who is working and loving so hard. There's nothing like being able to do this so thank you to all the people who have donated! Congrats Kathleen. Here's what she said "I am very grateful for th...e hours given to me by the caregivers club and VHA. The hours will give me a chance to go walking, meeting up with a friend for coffee (social distancing of course ) or grocery shopping . Somethings that I haven’t been able to do for a long time. I am so relieved to be able to do these things and relax knowing my husband is in good hands with a VHA worker. Thanks caregivers club and VHA. Kathleen S. The Caregivers' Club Family Relief Fund has awarded some more respite hours to family caregivers! We partnered with VHA Toronto to present two awards of 50 hours of free home-care respite service to honour family caregivers and show our gratitude and support for all they do, especially during this difficult time. Congratulations to our first winner Christine Smith. Christine wrote: This award is most welcome, especially during the pandemic. It means I can recharge, take a break, and then resume my caregiving role with my mate with renewed energy. I appreciate the efforts of Cynthia Banks and VHA staff to make this happen. Help PAY IT FORWARD AND KEEP THIS GOING and donate to our Caregivers' GoFundMeCampaign: https://www.gofundme.com/f/thecaregiversclub

Now, more than ever, is an important time to think about caregivers. We send prayers to all those people at high-risk and those healthcare providers going above and beyond the call of duty.

The Caregivers Club goes to America and receives a warm welcome and wonderful feedback! We have sparked another important discussion about the preparedness of living with dementia. The Panorama Community in Lacey, Washington opened their hearts and minds to many of the issues we need to think about and plan for all over the world : training, more support workers and programs, financial assistance, rights of caregivers, asking for help and helping others. Thank you for spreading the message and being part of the solution. It was wonderful to meet Tiffany, Sarah, Phyllis, Kathryn, John and Don and many more!
