When you receive treatment for pain, there is no way to accurately measure the percentage and duration of your pain relief. Wilderman Medical Clinic has develo...ped the Integral of Pain Relief (IPR) that measures both the percentage and duration of pain relief to better treat chronic pain patients. We are conducting an IPR study to collect data to validate this new measurement tool. This study will focus on patients who suffer from osteoarthritis of the knee and we will be measuring the effectiveness of corticosteroid injections. This study will go a long way in improving pain relief interventions and treatment plans for any patients suffering from chronic pain. If you or someone you know is suffering from osteoarthritis of the knee and is interested in our study, please contact us by phone: (905) 886-1212 ext: 206 or by email: [email protected] #chronicpain #osteoarthritis #corticosteroidinjection #kneepain #arthritis #painclinic #clinicalstudy #medicalstudy #medicalclinic #medicalresearch #ontario #toronto #thornhill

Did you know that smoking cigarettes changes your blood pressure? The American Heart Association states that although a direct connection between smoking and high blood pressure is still being examined, this bad habit can impact you in more ways than one. Both smoking and exposure to secondhand smoke increase the risk for the buildup of fatty substances (plaque) inside the arteries (atherosclerosis) a process that high blood pressure is known to accelerate, the Asso...ciation explains. If you had the option to stop smoking cigarettes, would you? Quitting smoking can give you a whole new lease on life. Meg Selig, author of Changepower! 37 Secrets to Habit Change Success and ex-smoker, told Psychology Today that she wishes she was kinder to herself during her exit from the bad habit. Looking back, Im sorry I was not able to be more compassionate with myself, Selig said. Research now tells us that despising oneself only leads to more guiltand giving i...n to ones habit to feel better. Nevertheless I managed to muddle through, focusing on my motivators of family and breathing free. This time I did not relapse, even once. Be kind to yourself and give your health a second chance. How would you classify your level of cigarette smoking? Were you a social smoker that gradually found yourself smoking more and more each day? According to Harvard Health, being a light smoker doesnt save you from the risks that come with cigarettes.... Smoking one to four cigarettes a day, for example, increases the risk of heart disease almost as much as smoking a pack a day, the university writes in their Harvard Heart Letter. Telling yourself, and your doctor, that you aren't a smoker doesn't negate these hazards, and it does keep you from getting help to quit smoking completely. If youre considering quitting cigarettes for good, consider joining our clinical trial. Smoking cigarettes changes your body. This deadly habit also changes your blood. In addition to affecting your lungs, brain and heart, Smokefree reports that cigarettes make your blood sticky. The stickier the blood, the harder your heart must work to move it around your body, writes the National Cancer Institute. Sticky blood is also more likely to form blood clots that block blood flow to your heart, brain, and legs. Over time, thick, sticky blood damages the delicate... lining of your blood vessels. This damage can increase your risk for a heart attack or stroke. If youre thinking about quitting cigarettes, consider joining our clinical trial to help others who are also trying to quit. Choosing to smoke cigarettes will have an impact on your entire way of life, including, the look and feel of your skin. Your skin is your bodys largest organ and Health Canada reports that smoking is connected to conditions like psoriasis and can cause premature skin ageing. They also note that cigarettes can lead to wrinkles and lack of blood flow.... Some of the chemicals in tobacco smoke can inhibit blood flow and the ability of blood to transport oxygen, leaving skin more vulnerable to wrinkling in smokers, Health Canada explains. The lack of blood flow and oxygen can also reduce the body's ability to heal sores and other wounds. Cigarette smoke may decrease the efficiency of the immune system, which also has a negative impact on the healing of wounds. If youre interested in quitting cigarettes and giving your skin a second chance, check out the Canadian Centre for Clinical Trials Smoking Cessation study. Smoking cigarettes can have an impact on everyone in your life. Secondhand smoke affects both children and adults and some outcomes can be quite severe. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that since 1964, approximately 2,500,000 nonsmokers have died from health problems caused by exposure to secondhand smoke.... They also outline that secondhand smoke causes the following in children: - Ear infections - More frequent and severe asthma attacks - Respiratory symptoms (for example, coughing, sneezing, and shortness of breath) - Respiratory infections (bronchitis and pneumonia) - A greater risk for sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) Interested in quitting? What happens to your body when you quit smoking? A recent article published by the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff notes that a 2019 Centers for Disease Control report outlines the benefits of smoking cessation. In 20 minutes, heart rate and blood pressure drop, they said. In 12 hours, carbon monoxide in blood drops to normal. In two weeks to three months, circulation and lung function improve and in a year, the risk for heart disease is half of someone who still smok...es. Additionally, the article states that giving up cigarettes can also have an impact on those with diabetes since quitting smoking helps a body use insulin better, which can make blood sugar levels easier to manage. There are lots of reasons to quit smoking; however, your motivations have to work for you. Interested in quitting? Check out the Canadian Centre for Clinical Trials' Smoking Cessation study. Smoking depiction in the media is on the rise and its hard to ignore the presence of cigarettes in popular television shows, especially those on the popular streaming site Netflix. According to an analysis conducted by national public health organization Truth Initiative, Netflix depicts smoking in programs such as House of Cards, Stranger Things, and Orange is the New Black more than US cable TV shows. Netflix responded to Truth Initiatives report by announcing that going ...forward, the only conditions smoking is allowed to be depicted in shows aimed at younger viewers is if there are "reasons of historical or factual accuracy." In addition, smoking featured in other shows is to be "essential to the creative vision of the artist or character-defining" in order to be included. Netflix acknowledged the impact of seeing smoking on screen, saying, We also recognise that smoking is harmful and when portrayed positively on screen can adversely influence young people." Can you remember why you began smoking? Did you see it in a TV show or movie and think that it looked cool so you tried it and became addicted? I want to do the right thing and not hide anymore. I want to march for tolerance, acceptance, and understanding. I want to take a stand and say, Me, too.'" Jason Collins June is Pride Month and we believe that LGBTQ rights are human rights. Pride is a celebration but it also marks the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots that took place in New York City, which were a catalyst for change in the LGBTQ community in 1969.... We wish love and happiness to everyone celebrating Pride in Toronto this weekend and around the world. We hope that everyone will soon be free to choose who they love without fear of persecution and live their personal truth out loud.
