Day 17 of our 18 days of Christmas Giveaways is for the Lamprecht family in Evansburg, AB. Two of the family's daughters (Kiara who is 9 years old and Hannah who is 7 years old - pictured below) are suffering from from a rare disease called Juvenile Batten's Disease. It is extremely rare (only about 5,000 people in the world are officially diagnosed with it). It is a neurological disorder that starts with vision loss. It progresses to seizures, dementia, and eventually causes... the complete loss of the ability to walk, talk, eat, and all motor skills. The life expectancy for a child with this disease is late teens to early 20's at best. There is currently no cure for this disease. There is some stem cell treatments that can be attempted that Duke University is piloting, but they cost $1.78 million per child. However, currently Alberta Health doesn't cover the cost of this because it is a U.S. treatment. We are grateful for the client of ours who brought this important and heart-touching story to our attention. We are proud to support this family in their time of need and we invite you to do the same. https://ca.gofundme.com/f/juvenile-batten-sisiters

Day 16 of our 18 days of Christmas Giveaways is for Make-A-Wish Northern Alberta. Our firm has been involved with this organization for many years. This organization hits pretty close to home for us as well, as our founding partner's (Corey's) oldest daughter, Sarah, is a Wish kid from about 9 years ago, having had her wish to go to Disney World fulfilled while she was battling a rare auto-immune disease called Juvenile Dermatomyositis. He has repelled down a tall office bui...lding for their Rope 4 Hope event for the past three years in a row, raising over $25,000 between him and his repelling team. The Make A Wish Foundation does so much good in the world helping provide suffering kids and their families with a much needed relief from the pain of everyday life. Many of the events that Make A Wish holds in a year to fundraise to provide these wishes have either been cancelled or greatly reduced due to COVID. Their need for donations is greater now than ever. We are honoured and grateful to support this amazing organization and we invite you to do the same. https://makeawishna.ca/

Day 15 of our 18 days of Christmas Giveaways is for Avenue Grooming - Mobile Pet Salon based in Edmonton. Its owner and operator, Desirae, loves pets and has as her goal to help them looking and feeling their best. From quick services such as nail trims to baths, brush outs & hair cuts, they can do it all right on your front street or avenue. As an added bonus, they are mobile, so they come to you. COVID has proved challenging as the rules regarding services that are allowed ...and not allowed keeps changing, as well as people's comfort level having others near them or their home. In addition, when finances get tight as people lose their jobs or businesses, they have less money to spend on their pets. That being said, Desirae was already equipped to have a physically distanced mobile setup and has benefited as well from a "shop local" mentality. We are happy we have a chance to recognize and support Desirae and Avenue Grooming, and we invite you to do the same. https://avenuegrooming.com/

Day 14 of our 18 days of Christmas Giveaways is for Kangoo Club Spruce Grove. Its founder, Tina Hofer, started the club 5 years ago after discovering a workout she could do with a bad knee. She realized then that Kangoo workouts could help a lot of people get moving and be active again, especially those that found traditional workouts to be challenging or painful. And hence the Kangoo Club of Spruce Grove was born. Tina became a Kj Fitness Instructor & health coach so she cou...ld use her passion for empowering and motiving others in a high energy environment and a positive impact on people's lives. COVID has forced the club to rethink how they do things, as gym's across the province have now been twice shut down due to public health restrictions. They have had to find a way to pivot to online instruction and classes. This constantly juggling of going between in-person classes and online classes as health restrictions keep changing has taken its toll on all the instructors at the Club, but they keep on persevering and are still very optimistic about the future, for they believe wholeheartedly in their vision and mission for the health and fitness of the people in Spruce Grove and surrounding area. We are honoured to recognize and support Tina and the Kangoo Club of Spruce Grove and we invite you to do the same. https://www.kangooclubsprucegrove.com/

Day 13 of our 18 days of Christmas Giveaways is for Pet Foods Etc. in Spruce Grove and Pet Foods Etc. in Stony Plain. The owners, Wes & Cynthia Hohnstein, have been local business owners in Stony Plain for 16 years. They opened their second location in Spruce Grove this year in 2020, which their daughter Chelsea runs. They started the business because it incorporates many of the things that they love: pets, well-being, and community. They have seen great joy and success as th...ey have helped many pet owners over the years, and have used that success to develop a bike program, where they take in gently used bikes, fix them up, and then donate them back to the community. COVID has had an impact on their business reducing the amount that customers can financially afford to spend on their pets, but they are very grateful for the initiative to shop local and that has kept their spirits alive and well. We are grateful to recognize and support this great local business and invite you to do the same. https://www.petfoodsetc.ca/

Day 12 of our 18 days of Christmas Giveaways is for Broadway & Grand, located in Spruce Grove. The owners, Devin & Kayla, started the business because they have a passion for food and love having a wonderful community to enjoy it with. They have met many friends through this business venture that feel much like family now. COVID is having quite an impact on the business. They were lucky enough to be able to expand to a new location this year, but due to public health restrict...ions in place, there are many seats forced to stay empty and they haven't been able to open their new lounge. As of yesterday, they are reduced to a take-out only service for at least the next four weeks. We have eaten at this restaurant and their food is amazing. We are grateful to support and recognize this great local business and invite you to do the same. http://broadwayandgrand.com/
