Dear readers, I hope you're all well and safe at home. It's not often The Choir Girl ventures in the video world but it may be a tool I use in the post-covid future to share choral media. Edmonton Opera asked me to contribute to their Kitchen Concert series and this video what I came up with! Take a listen as I share a recipe and tunes from Mozart and the Everly Brothers. I also couldn't help but share my current quarantine views so there's a fun surprise during the aria.
Guest Blogger: Who’s Behind Decolonizing the Choral Classroom? by Kiernan M. Steiner http://www.thechoirgirl.ca//guest-blogger-kiernanmsteiner. #thechoirgirl #decolonizingchoir

It is important to amplify voices during this time. I fully acknowledge the power of choral music to communicate with audiences but it is also important to consider the effects of colonialism in choir. There is importance given to Western European traditions in the choral music medium and @decolonizing_kiki poses some great questions to consider in regards to rehearsal auditions, rehearsal techniques, and attire.
