Media Release: In the final regular Council meeting of 2020, Surrey City Council approved two bylaws that will make for a positive environmental impact on the City. Amendments to the Surrey Tree Protection Bylaw and the new Plastic Bags and Single-Use Items Bylaw are precursors to the priorities Council will be placing on bettering Surrey’s environment in the new year.

Media Release: Despite the pandemic, economic confidence within Surrey remains strong, as we record $1.46 billion in building permit value this last year, surpassing the 10-year annual average. Residential building continues to be resilient, making up for $1.1 billion of the construction value. We are already getting excited for springtime, when Hazelnut Meadows Community Park (14069 - 68 Ave) looks this green again! At this park you'll find paved pathways, a 1.6 km nature trail, newer playground equipment, a games court, and picnic areas. The park also features a thriving community garden and wide open spaces. Throughout the year volunteers work hard to remove invasive species from this park so that the native species can thrive. When visiting any of our parks, please be mindful of public health orders, and help keep our parks clean by packing out any waste you bring in.

The Surrey Homelessness & Housing Society (SHHS) has granted the City of Surrey $3.9M to support three capital projects. Funding will cover renovation costs and long-term leases to support the growing needs of people who are at-risk of or experiencing homelessness in Surrey. We've launched a survey today to collect feedback from residents, business owners and community stakeholders about their current experience and future priorities related to transportation in Surrey. Data from the survey, as well as feedback collected from upcoming online open houses, stakeholder interviews and focus groups, will guide the creation of a new transportation plan for Surrey, which is anticipated to grow by 300,000 people over the next 30 years that’s 50% more than today.
