Just a reminder, snow route parking bans remain in place until snow is cleared on both Red and Blue Snow Removal Routes. Parking during the day is permitted in the Blue Route area downtown but is NOT PERMITTED there between midnight and 7 am. City crews were unable to clear snow on 2nd Avenue between Broadway and Smith last night as cars were left parked overnight. If this happens again those vehicles may be ticketed and towed.

Significant snowfall is expected tomorrow.....

The City of Yorkton 22.08.2020

A SNOW ROUTE PARKING BAN is being declared at 11 pm tonight, Monday, December 21, for the City’s two designated snow removal routes. Blue Routes include the downtown business district, and Red Routes include the City’s main arterial streets. These routes are clearly posted with signage and route maps will be posted on www.yorkton.ca/snow and here on Facebook (shown below). Parking during the day is permitted in the downtown area to allow businesses to continue to operate on a normal basis. When Snow Route Parking Bans are declared, snow clearing is much more efficient when there are no vehicles in the parking lanes on these key routes. Residents may also call the Public Works Department for information. Remember, when Snow Route Parking Bans are declared they will be in effect for 72 hours or until snow is cleared.

Yorkton RCMP have received numerous complaints relating to various frauds within their jurisdiction. In a vast number of these complaints the issue is an attempt to solicit and receive funds, and in most cases, fraudsters use alternative payment methods such as gift cards. Gift cards are a preferred method of victimization as they are virtually untraceable, universal across multiple jurisdictions and countries, and have a resale value on the black market. As a result, the Y...orkton RCMP, in collaboration with the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce, the Yorkton Business Improvement District, and a number of Yorkton businesses, have created a local fraud prevention initiative. Mayor Mitch Hippsley and members of the local business community attended the announcement today. Some of the measures agreed upon to combat this problem include: All local retailers will restrict the sale of high risk gift cards to a limit of $200 Any instances of purchases in excess of this amount will require a conversation with a manager to ensure the purpose of the gift card purchase Retailers will post signage at the point of display in addition to the cash registers, in attempt to notify customers of this new policy Retailers will also educate their staff on this policy, as well as the potential for fraud. For more information see the Yorkton RCMP Facebook page or contact the local detachment at 306-786-2400.
