The Community Compass 16.11.2020

HEY EVERYONE! Jesse Martineau here! TODAY I learned about ANOTHER awesome group ready to fill the gaps with emergency response needs for the Tri-Region! CHECK IT OUT! "Spruce Grove Community Church is dedicated to helping the communities of Spruce Grove, Stony Plain and Parkland county by providing relief during Covid-19. -subsidized grocery assistance (pick-up, delivery, gift cards)... -household supplies -toiletries -prescription pick-up/delivery. -essential utilities We are also open to assess any other essential needs or urgent requests not listed above. As some families may need one time aid and are not able, or ready, to access any longer term programs already in place, we can provide for their immediate needs and will do what we can to connect them with a program or service that can address a more permanent support. Our goal is not only to respond with aid, but to be a bridge to other organizations families may need for extra care during this difficult time." It’s go time!!!! If you had asked us 2 months ago about the new location we would have said we really don’t know whether we are even going to still be around..., let alone open the new location; the support we have received from our communities has been nothing less than amazing Over the past couple of months we have had the opportunity to serve many of our customers, as well as meet so many new people, hopefully, there are many more loyal Perkinites now... We were blessed to have had the opportunity to keep our team employed, and that they were willing to continue working with us; and luckily, didn’t run out of toilet paper, or sanitizer If we were to say there was a silver lining through this whole pandemic; it would be how our communities came together to support each other. We seen so much love for one-another over the past couple months, it was truly heartwarming The support local seems to have taken precedence for many, and we couldn’t be prouder to be a part of, and promise to continue supporting our communities in any way we can. With many conversations we are going to move forward with the drive thru, this has been a dream of ours, and yours for many years, and the truth is, if we don’t move forward, we may not survive as we have a lease already in place Before the pandemic we launched a crowdfunding campaign to help build out the new location, once COVID-19 hit, our entire world, along with everybody else’s became completely upside down. We felt reluctant to mention anything else about the new location; after all, how could we be worrying about a new location while many people, and businesses are worrying about simply surviving! We had conversations with a few of customers, and they said that there is no way for anybody to help if they don’t know what, or why they are helping; all you have to do is ask. Through these conversations we know that many of you want to help us create this new community space; So here we go....... Our crowdfunding campaign is not a free money campaign; we are selling exclusive limited pre-paid Perks cards that will be dispersed when the new location opens. If you’re interested in investing without the Perks Card crowdfunding campaign you can send us a private message or email. We know that this is a huge ask, and we do not want to anyone to put their financial well-being at jeopardy to help us out, but if you can join us in this dream we would be forever grateful for your support. https://perkscoffeehouse.ca/crowd-funding The cards can be purchased at the Spruce Grove, or Stony Plain, or online with the link below https://perkscoffeehouse.ca/online-store

Relaxation and sleep are important mental health protectors. How you relax can be doing very little but it doesn't have to be. Friday: Relaxation & Sleep Why is this a protective factor? Taking time to unwind and enjoy life is an important part of maintaining good health. Meditation, when practiced regularly not only relieves stress and anxiety, but also is shown to improve mood. This deep relaxation has many other potential benefits as wellit can decrease blood pressure, relieve pain, and improve your immune and cardiovascular systems.... What are we asking you to do? Take a picture that shows you relaxing and include a piece of paper in the picture that says #GETREALTriRegion Suggestions include: Sitting in the sunshine, reading a story, taking a nap, watching a favorite movie, try a guided meditation or Tai Chi Our Call to Action Try doing at least one thing daily that brings you joy, whether that's reading a book, learning something new, or stretching. Any of these can be useful, and really the most important part is finding something that works for you. Join us in the zoom room at noon to relax
