DIFFERENT DIMENSIONS

I know... it's been a while since I posted. I'm still intending on doing this just the idea is on hold until city by-laws change. I'm currently working on a modular design which would allow the room to be easily reconfigured depending on the use or event. Each game station would actually be a movable pod with detachable walls so for private use the walls could go up, but for a public event pod walls could be removed and then be lined up to face a stage. Draft designs coming soon!

Needed to hear this!!!

Lots of peeps popping up in the local pages and groups asking about who's interested in having an arcade in town. I've gone from no competition to lots of it just because the by-law is now getting attention and press. To be honest, I know I can rock the $#!t outta this business (almost definitely better than most who would throw their hat into the ring) but how do I rise above the noise? QUESTION: What would make you interested in one person's idea versus another? What would I have to offer to get your business?

Here is the first of a series I'm going to be creating as teaser ads on instagram. Each one will feature a scene from a world in different video games intercut with a question mark version of our Dd logo. It's predominantly meant to catch the attention of teens who we're trying to target via instagram. What do we think? Does it intrigue you? Would it intrigue the teens you know?

One rebuttal I have for this article is where it says "A lot of these console game systems already have online multiplayer, so why would kids leave their basements to go down and play with their friends at an arcade when they could do so from home?" Not everyone can afford these console systems and/or may not be able to afford certain games (the cost of new releases can be $80+). Regardless, there's also something to be said about IRL social interaction and being able to do couch co-op.

On the one hand I'm excited that the by-law is almost probably being repealed, but on the other I'm nervous that all the press this is getting will have the stereotypical "gamer dudes" jumping all over this and I already don't fit the gamer profile. Cue feelings of imposter syndrome!

What great news! Now I need to work as hard as possible to make sure I am ready to go as soon as this becomes legal. UPDATE: The notice of motion was read at the council meeting (Oct. 28th) with no discussion. The resolution will be coming to the Nov. 12th council meeting. The saga continues...

Lunch was spent learning about mentoring and a grant I can apply for in Cornwall. I'm most happy to learn that they'll help me decipher those pesky by-laws!!!

A simple query into what kind of hours to be open turned into a deep dive of the city's by-laws (which might have some weird rulings about arcades in town). But fear not my loyal followers... this business will happen and I'm signed up for Starter Company Plus next week put on by the Cornwall Business Enterprise Centre where all these questions will be answered!
