In her series of work Abstracted Grounding Michelle Markatos confronts one of the many challenges brought forward by the Covid-19 pandemic, the loss of connection to places outside everyday life that allowed us to feel most at peace. At a time of uncertainty Michelle through her series has sought out to reconnect to her place outside of everyday life, the beach. Her use of the white organically shaped mid-fired porcelain juxtaposed to the red mid-fired more cylindrical pieces replicates the sand and white waves at seashore. Michelle allows viewers of her work to connect to the outside world through her personal lens of past places of travel that during these times can feel out of reach.

Tenille Bryan in her photo series examines the culture surrounding hook ups. The series which follows two story lines gives a personal and vulnerable perspective into the darker underbelly of hook up culture and the lack of true intimacy that can exist. In her series Bryan offers the viewer an honest perspective of how hook up culture can allow us to come terms with our sexuality and sexual nature but also tells the cautionary tale of the consequences of being involved within the culture of hook ups
